love the kitchen units, please don't paint them they always look scabby.

with your kitchen i wouldn't have stainless steel splash backs but light coloured tiles, it will look lovely.

Thank you, I am going to seriously consider light cream tiles and on Monday a man called " The spray doctor" is coming to discuss spraying the large black pelmet cream or ivory. Also the back panels of the glass cabinets.I am excited!

Its hard to tell from the photos but you might be able to tile on top of the existing ones
Almost as heinous a crime as painting them. It will look pants and ruin the kitchen altogether IMO.
and I'd probably remove the tiles entirely from the wall between the two doorways.
A thought but if replaced with a light colour I think it wil be OK.

    Cheers

Have you considered wallpapering the black sides of the units that are visible?

That would allow you to introduce colour to the kitchen at very little cost.

I have considered that, after I went crazy with the lining paper experiment.
The thing is many of those black back boards have exposed edges and I dont think it would look professional. I can imagine the edge getting nicked and curling up.Also I have a feeling that the cupboards provide enough distraction and what I need is more light.Over the years I have introduced bits of coloured glassware etc, it gives a temporary lift but still does not address the main problem
Papering would work in the back of the glass cupboards though.

I also like the look of custom made glass splashbacks instead of tiles but I think thats going to be way out of my league.

I'd be interested to see some daytime shots.

What's outside? I find that if there's a white/light cream wall outside that can catch the sun it can give fab reflected light at some hours of the day. And/or position some outside mirrors to reflect light in.

Just a small yard with a hedge , bird table and washing whirlie Im afraid.
Large and attractive garden to rear, but this is the side of the house.
There is a cherry tree too maybe you can pick that out, I dont THINK its keeping out much light as thee light does not shine in from the North.
I'll put up some daytime pics too. thanks for your interest and help.
