A helpful self check-out assistant!

Options
This is not really a post about anything, just a nice comment to the checkout assistant in Sainsbury's Camden Town.

I was at the self-checkout and my shopping wasw £2.09, unforunately not realising I didn't have enough money I put in £2.02 and was left with 7p to pay. I called her over and explained the situation, said how sorry I was etc. and would be happy to put back an item. Expecting moaning and 'you shoudl check how much money you have before you pay' type comments (thats the cynicism in me about self checkout assistants) she just went over to the drawer and pulled out a handful of pennies and put them in for me. I can only assume they must be left from when people don't pick up their change which is only pennies, but clearly as shown here, the pennies count!

For a month or so in a row I've been going to Morrisons very early and seeing the same Checkout Assistant.

We say hello etc. and she helps pack the first few items as I am unloading my trolley.

It makes all the difference / pleasant experience.

We do have a pot of coins that customers have forgot to pick up as change and dropped for instances like what the OP was in. Also I have helped customers if their shopping came to say £11.24 and have £20 note and £1.23 in coins - so they get a £10 note (putting in the coins in first) instead £9.99.

Sainsburys staff are usually really nice. The self check-out once broke whilst I was mid way through, the screen just hung up. The supervisor gave me all my shopping for free - should have been about £17. Wish I'd bought a telly....

The other day some stuff had been been put in the wrong place. It looked like it was 2 for £5, but went through at full price. I mentioned it at customer service just to point it out. The guy insisted I have a refund and apologised profusely. Very different from Asda and Tesco where they are quite surly and seem to begrudge any extra work.

Could the decent assistants please transfer to Sainsbury's Greenwich then :D in place of the vacant twerp who was there last night. I get to the till, get my Nectar card out to swipe it first and suddenly the assistant is there with a hand on the basket asking if I still want these items. Yeeeesssss. That's why they are all in the basket and I'm about to start scanning them... Did your one-track brain go "Wallet in hand. Putting card back in wallet. Must have just paid. Why is there stuff in basket?" Do they have lots of customers who collect shopping and then decide not to buy it at the last minute? Or lots of customers who collect stuff and then realise they can't afford it all?

In fact - while I'm here - there's another vent... Why does the assistant have to tell the person at the head of the queue that a self-serve till has come free exactly 0.232 seconds after the previous customer has left. Yes - I was watching and I was waiting for them to be more than a pace away before charging in behind them. Now if the head of the queue hasn't reacted in say 5 seconds, you can politely interrupt their daydream to tell them which one is free but don't get pushy.
I need to think of something new here...

Im going to be biased here but the staff on the self service tills are always there when theres a problem with the tills so no waiting for the member of staff to come along and swipe the card and enter they're number.
