Original Source Lime Shower Gel - new horrible formula

Has anyone noticed the new formula of Original Source Lime Shower Gel?

I've been using it for years as it had a nice strong zingy lime smell, and felt like a real quality product, but back in March I bought several bottles during a price promotion and found that most of the bottles smelt really horrible - reminded me of hospital/industrial disinfectant.

I contacted Original Source (actually they are Cussons) with batch numbers and they said that they could confirm that it met their quality standards and that it may be due to "seasonal variations".

I bought another bottle a couple of weeks ago out of curiousity, but it still smells awful.

The comments page on the Original Source site is crammed with complaints about them changing the formula, and the smell like tcp/toilet cleaner etc.

I can't imagine why any business would completely ruin a popular high quality product like this - my guess is that the price of the raw ingredients was getting more expensive and they needed to use cheaper or less ingredients.

I've stopped buying it now as even the cheap supermarket lime shower gels are now much better quality.

If you've been disappointed by the new formula, then let Original Source/Cussons know - it's the only way they can be persuaded to restore the "original" lime formula.

It used to smell like those chocolate lime sweets which was great, it was one of my favourites. I was disappointed by the change too. There's a 'treacle moon' one sold in Tesco which smells like OS used to.

I hope they don't do the same with the lemon one. I love that one!

Aldi do their own version of OS Lime shower gel and the tea tree one too, they are both great. I fell out with OS when they stopped making their Tea Tree shampoo.
  • Agree with Shelley, Aldi's Lime shower gel is lovely (and cheaper!). I have just discovered Original Sauce Cassis shower gel, however, and that really is nice - the smell takes me back a few years to Italy and a Cassis ice cream I had there!

Superdrug have their own lime shower gels - normally on some sort of promotions and I have never used them and people I know love this range.

I thought I must be going mad for the past few months until this thread popped up :D

I also dislike the new smell, smells nothing like lime.

Sainsbury's low-cost (not Basic) washing-up liquid smells like toilet cleaner so now I can't use my loo because it smells like washing up.
  • All about the mint one. sitll does the job

The chocolate mint one is gorgeous! Like washing yourself with After Eight mints, but not as messy!! ;)

I have a bottle of the lime shower gel and I like it, but then I didn't smell the old version so have nothing to compare it to.
I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!

I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!
