I think a holistic approach is needed but doctors often only look at the presenting problem.
    I agree 100% with this.

Even looking at your diet or taking specialist enzymes and vitamins can sometimes improve a situation.

I agree with what bestpud says.

Just dramatically increasing your fibre intake and adding soluble fibre could make a big difference because it prevents hormones from being reabsorbed by binding them in the gut where they are taken out of the body. Hormones can get re-cycled and re-absorbed which can cause problems. That is in addition to hormones that are in the environment such as water, which also adds to the problem for both men and women.

Try taking a large glass of psyllium husks in water several times a day. Be careful because a few people can be allergic to the stuff. Also be careful that enough water is added because it can become quite hard and can cause constipation or even more serious problems in extreme cases. Best mix some with water, leave it for an hour which should make it go fairly firm and then try stirring it. It should then separate a bit and there should still be some free water. If not then you added too much psyllium husks. Water it down a bit. Only drink it when the consistence is right. Then you can mix it and take it quickly once you know how much to use.

It is a complex issue and speaking to someone who really knows about health and diet might provide the best solution. It might not be quite as fast as removing what you see as the offending womb, but it could solve more than just your PMT. It could help with your overall health and body weight as well.

However for some people, making changes to correct what has been going wrong for many years is too much trouble and in the end nothing will improve until you realise that and take corrective action.

Overburdening the Liver with high fat diet and anything that causes Liver congestion can be part of the problem. High fibre will help improve Liver function which would have a knock on effect to your PMT. Every little bit helps.

The Liver is the organ of anger! It can cause angry feelings when the bodies energy system is disrupted......PMT. At the root of the problem is how you deal with emotions, bottling them up, especially the expression of sadness which a majority of people in this country do, contributes to Liver congestion and resulting Anger. Add the wrong diet and everything gets worse still. Hormonal changes only add to the problem, it's not the cause!

Correcting the problem could alter your mood, eliminate anger, lower your body weight and improve your health. Cutting out your womb wouldn't be addressing the problem IMO.

Think about it positively, it could be an important life lesson what you have been ignoring for 28 years.

I agree with the poster who mentioned the hormonal coil (mirena), I've had mine for a couple of years now and no periods or associated problems. I had problems all my life, although not as bad as yours. When I got it I was too obese for the pill, so that's not a problem.

At least thanks to this thread you've got lots of ideas to talk through with your GP. I'm surprised that they haven't suggested some of them already.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Beware of bad advice from well meaning people on the internet - or anywhere else for that matter . .

    Good luck though -

Have you got any friends who'd join you in some keep fit, outdoorsy stuff?
Nothing major - bike ride/walk. Makes a heck of difference to escape the brats and have a little me time, something to look forward to . .

  • OP, the only person/people who you should be taking medical advice from is your GP/consultant.

Your question regarding benefits was the relevant bit here and my advice was to seek medical help in the first instance to possibly negate the need for even thinking about benefits.

Make that appointment with your GP asap :)

correct;medical advice isnt allowed on mse
  • Hi,

Have you tried 5-HTP? I know it worked for a friend who couldn't tolerate Prozac. It's a plant substance that is a precursor for serotonin. The main reason for PMT is a massive dip in serotonin so this stuff helps to balance that. It CHANGED her life from someone who had huge panic attacks, crying, anxious, paranoid, angry during PMT times to feeling balanced. There is no proper medical research on it though so take with caution.
    Good luck.

My mum had a full hysto at about 32.

She says that she can still tell when she is due to have her week as she feels emotional ect.

It may helped but it is not guaranteed and it is a lot of agro to go through if it doesn't.

You are best to get a referall from your doctor to get a higher level of help

A hysterectomy won't stop PMT as the hormones are produced by the ovaries and they aren't removed.

Faith says her mother had a full hysterectomy, which is the removal of the uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
