I get very bad migraines and heart palpitation when on them. Which is how I convinced myself I should come off them.
My uncle got relief from very bad migraines when he starting taking SSRI's. I don't know the exact type but for him, the lack of migraines were the greatest benefit to him.

Thanks for that, I've never been on the sick at work ever so I don't even know how I would go about, and ,imagine the embarassment of having to tell them that sometimes I want to physically throttle their customers.
That's okay, providing you only do away with the obnoxious ones, the world will be a better place.:rotfl:

As you are clinically obese at the moment, it is quite possible that a gynocologist would not consider it safe for you to have a hysterectomy until you have lost weight. It still is a major operation - and unless your ovaries are removed at the same time - which will bring on the menopause - you will still be subject to the same hormones. And of course, removal of ovaries generally goes with HRT - and if you are clinically obsese, then that too is fraught with danger.

I'm overweight - bordering on clinically obese at the moment - and I know how hard it is to lose weight - but if you can lose some weight, it might possibly help with the PMT - I do hope so.
This is a little off topic but have you looked at low carbohydrate diets? They can help considerably with losing weight. The average diet is loaded with carbs and the insulin released encourages weight gain, especially when mixed with dietary fat. The typical British diet, high carb, high fat and low fibre. A recipe for disaster. It might be something worth investigating ;)

    To Mara 69.

I have already said that my children eat better than me. Their food is cooked from scratch 5 nights out of 7. They eat fruit and veg. I'm not going to sit here and say they never eat junk food, because they are taken to McDonald's etc once a month or so.

It seems hard for you to comprehend, but I've had severe PMT for TWENTY EIGHT YEARS, I've only been fat for 10 of them. Who in their right mind would have enjoyed living this !!!!!! life for twenty eight years. At least I haven't spent 28 years on benefits, I've just soldiered on and on and on.

I very much doubt a surgeon would agree to such an intervention for issues with self control/anger maybe our maybe not caused by pmt. it is a serious operation with risks and a long recovery. It us also a cost to the nhs so other alternative would be considered first.
Other alternatives HAVE been pursued, for 28 years.

I've had enough of living like this, my entire life is ruled by a menstrual period.

If you've not gotten anywhere with the GP then do see a Practice Nurse. They are so much more in touch and sympathetic when it comes to female issues.

It really sounds like your medical care has been inadequate, I know how hard it is but you have to go back again and again and make a nuisance of yourself to get somewhere. You need to be brutally honest with whoever you choose to go to medical wise just how bad things are. If they take no notice and help, go see a different staff member at the surgery. Heck, make your way through the whole team if you have to!

There have been lots of suggestions given (and I appreciate that the diet police and "i've got it worse than you and cope" brigade are neither use nor ornament) but we are trying to help you :(

Can't offer much advice but if your PMT is severe is may be that its actually PMDD which is recognised as a mood disorder, this link gives more info: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Premenstrual-syndrome/Pages/Symptoms.aspx

I think you have more than that going on though tbh.

People scoff when diet is mentioned but the links are clear and you do say you have a poor diet because of longstanding emotional issues.

I think a holistic approach is needed but doctors often only look at the presenting problem.

I don't think anything will change without drastic action. That might include more invasive medical intervention but I have a feeling you will find one thing is cured but another will pop up until you deal with the underlying issues.

You've had this for a long time and have got by so I guess a GP will be almost immune to you talking about it. Maybe you need to get more forceful with them and make sure they fully understand the impact this is having?

Maybe start by saying how your kids are behaving, if they don't know that yet, as they seem to be struggling too and something needs to change for them as well.

Have you ever seen an endocrinologist? They can look at your hormones in-depth. I saw one for something non-period related, but even then they did check the hormones that drive my periods just in case.
