Hmm yes that's a point - don't want to be making a big hole in the wall if the cat decides to just sit there are look at it!

Do you have a suitable window you could fit a flap in? That may be easier.House saving Targets:

Hungry cats can generally be persuaded with tuna (or other smelly favourite food), playful cats with a favourite toy. Prop the flap open and start the temptation!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
don't worry too much, put your cat out during the day when you go to work, then open the door to let him in if he wants when you are home, you could provide a suitable box/shelter if the weather is bad during the day. Ive done this for mine but she just ignores the box and much prefers to hide inside the hedge in the garden!0

I have never had a cat flap - but our cat has always made herself at home in the garage - she had a very comfy bed up in the eves and as the boiler was in the garage it was very cosy in the winter. She can inside with us when we came home from work.
I always worried that other cats and even rats would use the cat flap!!0 -
We have a cat "kennel" in our garden for when they've done a disappearing act and we need to go out. They both love it and can often be found curled up in there.Je suis Charlie.0

Yeah see I know what I'm like - I say I could make a hole in the garden shed for cat access, but the garden shed would actually end up looking like a cat playground lol! I will have to wait and see if a solution presents itself when we actually move in (it's so bad of me to be so presumptuous, we've not even signed the contracts for the house yet - I'm planning for a cat before the furniture haha)
I want to get a bit of basic decorating done before we get a cat so that it a)doesn't get poisoned and b) has nice freshly painted walls to scratch on haha.
It may be that we end up doing what you say MissIndecisive!

I adopted a 3 legged cat from Cat Protection last February and called her Miss Molly. I do not have a cat flap as I don't want her bringing presents into the house. Last week some voles came down here on holiday in a 56 seater coach and when they went home they only needed a 4 seater taxi !!
I am retired so am at home a lot and can sort things out. If I was you I would either get them to use the shed or better still find a way to have a cat flap into your home with access to just one room.0 -
Out cat flap is through a wall. It wasn't very expensive, about £50 or so (although that was about 12 years ago). We have a flap at either side.0
