Any teachers out there ? - what actually happens on "Inset days " ?

Teaching days are 190 per year. 5 inset days per year in addition to that. As support staff I get paid for 45 weeks per year. This equates to the teaching days plus inset days plus statutory holidays.Any other days I go in are my own time.
Inset days vary a bit- so far this year we had 2 'getting the classroom ready' , 1 on behaviour policy, 1 on literacy and 1 general meetings etc.
We have 2 days of inset before children are back. This is not extra holidays for us or he kids!0 -

I am not alone as other parents have commented that why can't inset days happen the week prior to term starting. It seems the major school holidays are long enough - too long in my opinion (but that's another matter) - without having further inset day problems where parents have to re-organise their working shifts/days around yet again...........to accomodate teacher training et al.
It doesn't matter when the inset day occurs, your child will still be in school for the required number of days in the academic year. Sadly, for you, you are goin to have to take responsibility for your own child(ren) outside of those days. It's time parents stopped considering school as free child care.
Re school holidays for teachers. In my experience the 'long' summer holiday of 5 and a bit weeks includes a week + of work, excluding inset days. 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter, in reality means about a week off. Half terms, maybe 3 days off each. So not the perk people assume. Not bad really but considering what they do I don't begrudge them.0 -

School is not a childminding service, organised for the convenience of your schedule. The children are not the property of the school, to be loaned to parents in the holidays. They are your snot-gobblers.
I realise that ! I'm not that daft.
My point being is that why do the kids lose a day or 2's schooling when the inset days could be put onto the (say) Thursday or Friday of the half term holiday ?
And yes I know teachers are entitled to holidays.....but even the rest of the working work-force don't and can't always have
a full week off every school holiday.
It's the system that needs sorting. But that's only my opinion.Am the proud holder of an Honours Degree
in tea-making.
Do people who keep giraffes have high overheads ?0 -

That would mean an increase in the number of days a teacher had to work. Not sure what the average salary is these days but, say for example, 5 extra days pay times every teacher in every school, a lot of money involved, I daresay.0 -

Education can (shock) happen OUTSIDE of school. Find something educational for them to do on those two days.0 -

Wear a condom next time?
I don't mind explaining to people at all. No need to be so unkind.
I think that there are a lot of people who don't understand the situation so maybe it should be made clearer to parents.
Anyway, a lot of parents have to work and it's not easy to get time off.
Worse these days, I am sure.0 -

Contraception is a wonderful thing. Teachers are not free child minders.0 -
Actually the true reason for Inset Days, is basically for all UK teachers to gather in Blackpool for one massive, meaningless, fudgless sex orgy
I will now likely be assassinated for divulging this information.0 -
