Atm didnt give out money

evilmoneymaker
I am with a building society and I went to an Ulster Bank ATM. Everything seemed, pin, worked, no messages about insufficient funds. I told I wanted out 20. Its just the ATM didnt give it out.
The card came back out and I tried taking out 20 again but said insufficient funds. I left but went back and two other people it worked for fine. The second person took out a whole load of money so nothing wrong the ATM itself. I came home and checked statements its showing up with less funds meaning my building society concerned considers it me taking out the money. I have emailed them under ATM disputes asking them what do I do? Has this happened to anyone else? Did their bank more or less say not their problem or say dispute it with who the atm belongs to?

You may have been the victim of a 'cah trapping', whereby criminals put a temporary cover over the part of the machine the money comes out of. The transaction goes through and the money will exit your account as normal, but the cash is 'trapped' until the criminals come along and remove the covering. Ask the bank to check the cctv footage and mention a possible cash trapping has taken place.''apply within''0 -

As you have done.
Any ATM non dispense, miss-dispense or walk away are handled by your card provider.
I would ring your card provider as they will need your authority to talk to the atm owner to take it forward for you.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

There has been an explosion in cash-trapping over the last 2 years in the UK and in Europe generally. Cash trapping is the reason why the overall number of ATM 'attacks' have increased over the last two years.
It's a very big problem in Britain, and a very plausible explanation for the OP's problem, however your explanation is also a possibility.''apply within''0 -

The same thing has happened to my mum today, difference being it was £300 and the machine dispensed ziltch. HSBC says to play the waiting game. Keeping fingers firmly crossed...0

The non-displensed noted can be trapped within the mech, so the notes are found but no confirmation as to who should have got it until they complain via their own bank - when the amounts match, they rebate the change and all is well.0
