Seemingly it's ok for Martin to blog, but the rest of us are now banned from posting our blogs then?

We have a nail art thread which has dozens of us participating. Most of us post our efforts on our blogs then share the links with our friends on the thread. We were a litte surprised to discover that links to blogs are seemingly now banned on MSE.

Would a moderator like to explain why on earth we can no longer share our hard work with each other on this website?

  • Hi pulliptears,

Google are changing the way they rank websites, to do with copyright infringement. We've been updating our spam filter today with the list google have. I'm paraphrasing here on behalf of the techies, but that is the crux. I'm sure we will find somewhere their policy is perhaps overarching and we need to review specifics where some of the URLs blanket cover too much.

Interestingly though, we've actually never allowed you to link to your own blogs, see here :

I'd be interested to know what harm 2 dozen women showing eachother their nails can possibly be doing.

Is there any chance the ban on blogspot links will be relaxed?
  • pulliptears a way around it is to set your 'home page' as your blog. Then on each post sharing your nails you can point people to your home page. Obviously a bit of hard work because you can't direct them to a certain blog post but better than nothing :D

Oddly enough I'm just about to pay for a.com URL for my blog :D

I could understand if we were advocating bloomin treason or promoting GoCompare but we are comparing fingernails!!

It's a blanket ban because we have always been a zero tolerance website for advertising - we've no idea what's on your blog, whether it's a revenue stream, what the content is, etc

I'm not saying yours does, but as we can't manually check each blog, this rule exists and has done for a long time. You've actually been under the radar until you posted on here today.

Out of interest, why do you need to drive people away from that thread? Surely you can post the same material here (as it looks like you have done off and on) and the problem is solved for all?

There are ways around that Fermi ;) Ones that also will not break the rules, especially as its confined to a group of 6/7.

No pulliptears you can put them as your home page, you just can't say in a post, go check out my homepage there is a new post. But see above it can be done ;)
