OK, thanks for this one
After downloading it and a few hours of "mastering" it, several c*ckups, one total loss of D drive and several reboots I finally have the following and am happy to keep this: -
C drive: -
Capacity, 34.9GB
Used,..... 18.1GB
Free,...... 16.8
D drive: -
Capacity,. 41.7GB
Used,...... 5.65GB
Free,..... 36.00GB
Now this totals 76.6GB, HD is 80GB?
I do not appear to have lost anything, but only time will tell.
.
Don't worry, you haven't lost any capacity. Gigabytes vs Gibibytes. See here.Toxteth_OGrady wrote: »You can get an idea of how to do it here
Solution 1 at the link I provided was exactly what you wanted to do in 5 easy steps so not sure why it took you several hours but glad you got there in the end. :beer:604!0 -
Haven't read all the posts but you can just point your home MyDocs to another place
so MyDocs could be\ much more space at the click of a mouse...

But you should have a backup available any way. Glad you got there in the end.0 -
With the above in mind I have copied My Documents and D drive onto a 16GB SD card, that card reads as "Used Space 5.24GB", have I missed anything that should have been backed up? or is the other 9.76GB Windows?
I have downloaded Gpart and saved to desktop, but when I try to open it I get a box saying, "you have chosen to open gparted-live-0.13.1-2.iso", the default is Firefox and there is a drop down box with "other" in it, when I click on this I cannot see what will open this application, any ideas? I did this yesterday with the same result, I have uninstalled it then installed again today.
.
I see TOG has found you a more user friendly method, and I am glad you have had some success.
It may be worth having a play with creating a boot cd/usb from an iso (which is often an image of a bootable CD). This gives you the option of starting your pc when windows won't start if for example you had experienced a disaster , there are many different images that may be useful in the event of such an occurrence , eg systemrescuecd, hirens boot cd etc. As you already have an iso of gparted then if you want to practise creating and using such then the instructions for that particular one are here http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php. You never know if the need will arise, only a suggestion of course but if you are interested someone will help if you get stuck.

"My Documents" has only 249MB in it.

Everything is easy when you know how:D, I kept getting large chunks of "unallocated" space and at 1 time lost D drive completely, plus the programme and Windows kept telling me to reboot,(which is not quick with this computer).

If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 then this is completely unnecessary as the OS already has the tools built in.
