Look at this http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ but ensure you have backed up first, I have never known it to cause problems but it is always better to be safe.

By back up do I just "select all" on D drive, (C as well? How?), then copy to a disc or pen drive?

Download WinDirStat and run it on the C drive to see what's actually there. Once you know this, and optionally what's on the D drive, you can decide ifthere's anything surplus to requirements, which can be deleted, or moved from C to D

Where would I download this from, and how do I run it on C drive?

Is your hard drive losing the plot as to get it "sectioned" may get you noticed or did you mean "partition" the drive :)

Had CC cleaner on computer, but forgot about it just updated it and run it, my C drive now says: -

    Capacity 19.5 GB
    Used space 16.9GB
    Free space 2.61

So have got back nearly 2GB.

Still would like to swop more space from D to C drive, any more info re my post #12?

    http://windirstat.info/download.html

you want the "current installer" link :)

Still need to resize the partitions as well though...

just a thought, you'll probably free up a couple of GB by doing thorough disk clean-up, follow this (same principle on XP as for vista

Done the disc clean up, (I do this occasionally), but only saved me 1056KB, and made no difference to the totals ion my post #14.

Still need to know what/how to do backup, and where to save it bearing mind I appear to have about 20GB of files, progs etc.

to back up, copy and paste all your photos, music, documents onto USB drives or burn to cd/DVD before you start re-partitioning the drive.

Alternatively, copt the small amount you have on your D: drive to your C: drive, and then use whichever partitioning tool you use to 1. remove the D: drive and then 2. expand the C: drive to fill the total hdd space.

The "small amount" on my D drive is 5.65GB which will not fit onto my C drive, it only having 2.61GB of space.

My Documents, (on the C drive?), is only 294MB, so is all the other 17GB on the C drive operating system and if so will it not require backing up?

If not, then all I need to do is to copy D drive and My Documents then do as I wish?

I would prefer to have two drives, so would I then not need to remove D drive? If that is the case can I extend C and would this automatically decrease D drive?

If not, then all I need to do is to copy D drive and My Documents then do as I wish? pretty much, yes

I would prefer to have two drives, so would I then not need to remove D drive? If that is the case can I extend C and would this automatically decrease D drive? so don't remove D:, but you have to shrink it manually then grow C: manually, it's not an automatic process

And what if I am not careful? How would I back up all of that? Is there a chance I could lose it all?

Which "resizer" would be the easiest? the one from Bazster in #15, or WinDirStat
