Just a note for everybody who's unemployed and who may need a screen print of proof they are in receipt of JSA.
It used to be a simple case of going to the jobcentre and asking at the front desk for exactly that.
How it used to be:
Front desk, ask can i have a screen print to prove to the council that i'm signing and in receipt of benefits.
walk over to one of the JSA staff, receptionist says to her the above,
she gets on and does it, walks over to the printer and then hands you the screen print.
How it is now as from 2months ago:
Front desk, can I have a screen print to prov to the council that i'm in receipt of benefits.
answer: It takes 24hrs, come back tomorrow with photo id or driving license, birth certificate.
Differences, well if you have to travel by bus that twice the bus fare, by car, twice the petrol, parking fees note: still cheaper than then bus, walking twice the shoe leather.
I find it totally unacceptable as it only takes what max of 5minutes, they log in, type in your N.I number, click to get to that screen print window and then print. After all its not like they are busy when you walk in a see most of them sitting there twiddling their fingers doing nothing.

It's like that in most places nowadays. I once went to an employment agency office and got asked to come back the next day to fill in paperwork and go through what i was after, all of which took about 20 minutes. Why i couldn't do it there and then i don't know.0

You could walk to the Jobcentre, save money?
It might only take five minutes, but the signing staff do not have a spare five minutes. Plus that is five minutes for every client that asks - twelve requests and that is an hour gone.
I find it totally unacceptable that you are unwilling to wait a day. Get some perspective, they do have more important things to deal with.0 -

What if you can't walk there? If this was me I would have to drive or take the bus, and with the cost of buses from where i live to the job centre i'm registered with there is little difference in price from the car. Either way it's 10 miles there and 10 back, so two trips and that's 40 miles.0 -
What? They do not do that at my job centre at all. I have has to prove I was on JCA to go to the dentist and I had to call the 0845 number to get them to write a letter and send it to me in the post. First one never arrived so I had to call again as the jc do not do this which is outragous if you ask me - at a cost to me again!Just a note for everybody who's unemployed and who may need a screen print of proof they are in receipt of JSA.

You've not got a job, no reason why you can't walk at least one way. Even better, borrow a bike and you'll do it in no time.0 -
walk 20 miles? LOL I know I'd be dead and it would take hours. 20 miles takes about 6 hours walkingpickpocketlocket wrote: »You've not got a job, no reason why you can't walk at least one way. Even better, borrow a bike and you'll do it in no time.0 -
Do the HB people not accept the letter from the Job Centre advising that your claim to JSA has been accepted?"If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"
Extract from "If" by Rudyard Kipling0 -
Everyone who signs on receives a pack confirming their claim, how much they're getting, terms and conditions yadder yadder yadder ... etc through the post. I know this because I've signed on three times in the past and in my current job deal with JSA claimants on a daily basis (who produce them when asked for them for funding purposes).
Is that not good enough?
I'm sorry but JCP staff are genuinely busy enough to be able to ask for 24 hours notice. If travelling is such an issue why don't you ask them to post it?
Expecting, in very busy JCP centres nowadays, that staff will print off documents (that you should already have) proving your claim at the drop of a hat just isn't going to happen.0 -

5minutes your having a laugh, when i sign on it takes less than 2 minutes, they call my name, i sit down, they hand me the paper, they dont say "have you worked in the last 2 weeks", i sign it and then i'm out the door.
sorry 2minutes is usually how long it takes after i've walked through the door and sat down and i'm back out the door again.
The council need a screen print, I havent received any letter telling me my sanction has been lifted. I know it has been lifted due to the fact I've had a payment. And it was only a 2 week sanction in the first place WHICH I TOLD THE COUNCIL, it also said it on the letter I handed to the council 2 weeks ago. But according to their TAX bill of £189.90 for the year. The council assume that i'm not in receipt of any JSA or benefits for the TAX YEAR.
Stupid I know. So to work out how much is OWED I have to send them proof I'm on JSA and I'm getting JSA so they can send out a NEW tax bill. its all wrong. it could be and should be easier.
IF you show the council a letter saying your sanction for 2 weeks. they should NOTE that as proof and then charge you for those 2 weeks. of course if you appeal those 2 weeks from the jobcentre and it gets turned around then they should after you have taken the letter saying your benefits for those 2 weeks have been reinstated therefore be refunded, but the council DOESNT. so you have to go there and tell them your sanctioned, then 2 weeks later have to go back and tell them your reinstated. Now as your sitting there for upto 1hr at a time waiting to be seen that is a waste of time.
In responce:
TerryW I have been signing on a long time. I've had no letter from the Jobcentre about my claim to JSA being accepted. You only get that WHEN YOU SIGN ON. you also dont get a letter when your sanction is lifted for about 3-5weeks, you have to get a print out of the screen and then take it to the council. even though the council computer are connected to the benefits computers.
Pickpocketlocket: Why should I walk when I currently have a car which I pay the expensive car insurance, car tax, petrol for. Whilst in a cool day it would take me around 30-35minutes to walk there, I dont just GO THERE, I do Runs, example: I go to the jobcentre I sign, I then go to asda 2miles in the opposite direction and get the shopping i need, I then travel to my local shops to pick up items which are cheaper, or only available there, I also on occasions usually once a month, travel 8 miles after being to the jobcentre to a farm to pick up a bag of spuds, sack of nuts for the birds, seed and some dog food for my sister. Now i'm sure you would like to walk that distance and CARRY around 50kg of stuff the 20miles round trip.
I also own a push bike its currently in the shed, but currently in the south with the SUN at its hottest I would be drench in sweat by the time i got there.
Car = 7 minutes
Bus = 20minutes
Bike = 25minutes
Walking = 45minutes
Rueben why the change, after all for 19years you could go in and get a screen print, now for the past 2months they changed it to you must give 24hrs notice.
small note to your first part, Yes i got that pack telling me how much I would be getting dated some time back in sept 2011 after coming off ESA, that was before i was sanctioned for 2 weeks for missing an appointment with A4E which I simply forgot about, misplaced the letter with the date and time, I also forgot about a appointment at the doctors and that letter is therefore invalid. And i wont get another letter any time soon, usually takes them 3-5weeks to send out the letters. And the council expect the first payment of £18.90 next week. As for you saying they are busy, well not when i was there, 6 desks from where i was standing, no people signing on at all on that floor, and them looking out the window. Now tell me how thats busy.
As for them posting it, well you cant show proof of who you are if they send it to you. And you must SHOW PROOF so they wont send it.
oh and it must be photo id, but a old driving licence or birth certificate will do.
You may be wondering about the 19years, well I've been signing on for 19 years, I done every WORK PROGRAM the government has come up with, and I can say without doubt they have all been the same, but called different names.
And none of them WORKED.
Yes i have worked, back in 1999. I've also done phone book delivery when i was sanctioned for 6months when the books where 3times the size they are today.0 -
I rang them up last time and they had a letter sent to me by the next day, which I thought was very efficient.0
