I have a Vax mach7 and absolutely love it...it was over £100 when I bought it 3 years ago but I can find them online for less than that now. It also has a 6 year guarantee. I had to contact Vax last month as mine was making a weird noise...turned out the bearings had gone in the brush bar. They sent me a replacement free of charge (usually chargable)...it arrived within 2 days..top class service.

I have a very hairy dog (labrador) and it copes brilliantly. I also have 4 kids and again my vax doesn't bat an eyelid at the mess they make! :D

Personally, I avoid Henry's and Dyson like the plague, I don't think they have the power or suction to pick up properly, but that's my opinion. :p

If you have the money, Nilfisk is the dogs dodas when it comes to hoovers...but I can't afford one and found my Vax to be the best 'cheap' alternative.

One disadvantage of my particular model is the weight..it is VERY heavy but as I live in a flat, thats not an issue for me but something worth baring in mind.

Another vote for Henry. Try Costco for Henry and bargain bags.

Firstly you need to say if you want an upright or a cylinder vacuum cleaner? You won't get a decent new upright for £100. But you could get a very good refurb'd Dyson (probably a DC07 or DC14) for around that figure. Manchester Vacs is the best source for these-I've bought from them in the past.

Could you kindly copy paste the ranking on Which Magazine?
I copied the entire best buys list but the amount of data exceeded permissable amounts on here so couldn't paste it.
I'll gladly give info. from the reviews if you have any specific questions.

I bought a Vax power 8 pets last year, I think it was £95 from Argos. The suction is amazing. It cleans brilliantly. The only thing I don't like is that the clip that holds one of the tools snapped off one day when I accidentally dropped the cleaner- the plastic was quite brittle. But I would still recommend it as it is such a great cleaner.

ETA- it's also a little on the heavy side- doesn't bother me but might be awkward if you have a bad back or anything.

It should still be under guarantee, you should give Vax a call and see what they say, they've been very helpful with me.

We have a Henry and found him excellent on wooden floors or vinyl, but hard going on some carpets. We were given a Dyson and use that on the one room in the house that has carpet and Henry in the rest of the house. We had a Hetty before and she was just as good.

We bought the Samsung SU3350 last year because I wanted a light upright and we've haven't been able to fault it (and we've used it for lots of DIY mess and a hairy cat)
