    Thanks, Hey Dude.

I can see that it's easy to get confused with what's what. I'm sure that there are people trawling these boards looking to "help" people, but as I am a newbie I don't want to misconstrue anyone's advice. I am spending a lot of time looking at these boards and it has helped a lot. I will take Pay Plan's advice and let you all know what they suggest. In the meantime, thanks again for all the advice - it has made a great difference to me and my wife.

PayPlan are very good - take their advice.

You seem like a nice chap - all the best - you will get there in the end.

As mentioned earlier I have applied for a new current account with the Co-Op Bank. I've not heard from them yet, but it did say that I would hear within 5 days. If it gets refused, I will need to try someone else, but I will be running out of time as I get paid on the 25th of April, and it is imperative that my salary does not go into my HSBC Current account. My wife & I have a savings account with Britannia Building Society, (nothing in it, but it is still active). I asked the BS if my salary can be paid into that, they said yes, so I will make this arrangement tomorrow with work until I have another current account set up. Can anyone confirm that if my work puts my salary into this account, that it will be there on the 25th like in a current account or does it take longer being a BS account? I have asked, but can’t get a straight answer apart from “it should do”.

If your wages are paid by the BACs system, the wages will go in on the same day, whether its a bank or building society. If they pay by cheque, i believe that they take longer to clear than a bank (this was the case years ago, and im assuming this is the case now) so you wont have access to your money as quick.

Thanks, catowen. They are paid by BACS.

Also, my wife's current account is with HSBC but it is in her name only, not a joint account. Am I correct in thinking that HSBC cannot touch her account regarding me?

If you have no joint debts together with HSBC then it should be fine.

A DMP done free of charge... And work nationally...? Then you are either from CCCS (not c-c-c-s.com) or Payplan... The only others who give free advice are CABs and local authority money advisers...

OP beware... you dont get anything for free unless from one of the above I have mentioned..

Penningtons, Bainst & Earnst, Churchill and all the rest charge...! ! Do not pay for debt advice... Go to CAB... Or what I would suggest (as a provider of free debt advice with a local council) is to contact an Insolvency Practitioner for further advice, especially regarding IVA and the bankruptcy option...

Grant Thorntons (no link to me whatsoever) give free initial interviews and will tell you which option is best for you... If that means a DMP with CAB or whoever, then they will advise this...

    Good luck.

Myvesta did my initial DMP totally free of charge - as is their advice!

They did not charge for my IVA either, although they will get paid by the Company who did my IVA for me.
  • I do not work for the CCCS or Payplan etc, I work for myself and am absolutely sick to the back teeth of unethical companies such as those you have named.

I anyone approaches me and wants to do DM themselves I am more than happy to help them with that on a pro bono basis.

I thought that touting for trade on mse was not allowed?

Finished work early today, (have a good employer), and I'm getting things ready for when Payplan call me at 6. I have received a letter from Co-Op bank confirming that my application for a current account has been accepted but before they can open the account I need to sign at least 2 forms they have enclosed with their pack. One is for my salary to be transferred from my current bank, (HSBC), the other is to transfer direct debits and any balance on the account from HSBC to Co-Op. I do not want them to contact HSBC as HSBC will then be aware that I will be changing my account. The number to ring the Co-Op is only available from 8am to 4pm so got home too late to call them. I was going to ask them if the Co-Op account could be opened without closing my HSBC account, i.e. is it allowed to have more than one current account at the same time? Does anyone know this?
