hi guys, just had hsbc on about using favourites to store thier web address.
they say do not save, always type it in browser.
had this before with them, is there any more likelyhood of getting stung using favourites than typing every time to go to any bank website?
favourites always takes me to https, and if I type, sometimes I only get http;
any advice would be grateful, ;;nothing to do with my reason for phoning them for 30 mins +, glitch in thier system, trying to say it,s me using favs:
presume, hsbc can tell ?which way;beer:

    You do know that you can type https yourself, don't you?

    As in https://www.hsbc.co.uk for example.

    Hi John, Yes I know that, i,ve just tried several times just to prove a point.
    typed in hsbc . co .uk and 5 sites came up with https, clicked on each and directed to hookie sites.
    typed in https, got proper site.
    That doesn,t answer the question, is using favourites any more unsafe than typing in the FULL https hsbc.co.uk ? as hsbc claim it is

    people can change favorites, so thats why they say it, they are probably safer than not using them really

    how do hookie sites come up, assuming you are typing in the address window, not search

    In theory malware could change the target of favorites to a malicious site.
    How do I add a signature?

    Hi Closed I typed in hsbc.co.uk ( not correct I know)tis a seach really)and 5 sites came up with https hsbc.co.uk enter. clicked on each and the https was scored out in red and no security lock on all of them, but web page looked cosher.
    Didn,t enter any more data to find out.
    If my favs take me to https secure, shield, and rapport on, and green, I think It,s a safe bet it,s ok?

    Hi Figment, I know it creates another link that,s likely to be malled/spied et.al,but that,s only if malware etc is on pc, but in reality, I use bank web sites every day, several, and typing in each address can be a chore, so using favs is easier, as long as the website checks out.I admit, i,m lazy, but not unsecure, in fact I,m ott where security is concerned, because I bank a lot;

    it's not really clear what you are typing and where, the secure connection (https) comes up when you go to the logon page

    Always safer to use the address bar, or favorites, than search if you know the url. The rsa key will give added protection anyway, you dont need layer upon layer of rapport and the like.

    Hi, sorry, probably not making myself clear. I don,t seach, that,s why I saved https hsbc, and umpteen other banks in favs.
    But if , by typing the wrong url, miss something out, it then can become a search, and end up on any of them 5 sites I mentioned.if not aware;;;
    hsbc don,t recommend favs, but do rapport, had this ages ago.If I didn,t have it on today, it would have been another lecture from them.do,s , don,ts. I only phoned them to say the key wasn,t generating correct code,or so the site said;6 times, and locked me out.had to phone then, he said gremlins. but only after 30 mins.then he picked up on browser;they always pick on them 2 items whenever I have cause to ring them, not often thank goodness;

    It's not worth worrying about, either type it in, or use favorites.
