TV licence fee... .

I couldn't work out which board this should be in, so if somebody could move me to the right board I'd really appreciate it... .

We've just received a TV licence renewal form thing, saying that within a couple of weeks we need to get a new licence. The thing is we are planning on moving abroad at the end of July. There doesn't seem to be an option to buy a six month licence, so is it a choice between buying a yearly licence but not being in the country for half of it, or going to jail...? Help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Buy it then apply for a refund when you move. See here.

You can buy a yearly licence and then claim a refund in three month blocks, ie 3 months, 6 months or 9 months.

Edit: Dammit not only beaten by psychic albertross but also by TOG.

The response is usually to buy a yearly licence and then claim a refund of the unused portion. However, I think it's in quarterly (3 month) amounts.

If you call the number on the renewal notice, they should be able to tell you.

    Edit: Too late.

or pay by direct debit quarterly and cancel after first payment - easier than claiming it back.

    Hi
    I pay by quarterly DD,
    here's how it works
my licence is due on 1st july 2007
they will take a quarterly charge of £**>**
then 3 months on another quarterly charge
so I am paying for 3 months licence then another 3 months,
and so on and so on.
you add £5 for admin charge to what ever the bill is now then quarter it,
on the 1st april 2007 I will pay £34.14 and that's the last quarter for this year,
then on 1st july 2007 I will start all over again,
what ever the bill is + £5 then quarter it,
    hope this helps

Will this not cause a problem when the DD doesn't go through??
Unless obviously if you contact the TV licensing agency and get them to close the account as well.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
