If you went to a wedding...

Thanks for the feedback, both for and against. It seems though the split is pretty even with an additional few being undecided. Good point made by rainbow drops about taking the pictures away, ill make sure we have some hard backed envelopes so they can be taken home safely for those who want that.
Another good point made about watching people being drawn, I can imagine quite a few people being intrigued! If I work on the basis that half of our guests would like it done then thats between 20 and 25 people, he can do 10-12 an hour so that works out fine.
I mentioned it to my mum when I picked her up from the airport and she was jumping to be the first drawn. I'm pretty sure of a few who will be well up for it and a few who probably will after seeing other peoples, and obviously a few that wont.
As I put in previous posts, there will be on forcing people or invasion of conversations.

My BIL to be had one at his wedding! It was lovely. Me and my OH had a pic done of us together and it sits in a frame in our hall way. It literlly took 5 minutes and it was done whilst the bride and groom were having photo's taken. Everyone loved it.
Also the guy that did it had a load of elastic bands, he just rolled them up and secured them with one of those

Some of the comments on here are a wee bit nippy - not the usual for the wedding board - usually people are a bit more diplomatic with their opinions (unlike some other areas of the forum). Anyway, I think it's a great idea! And as the OP said he can do a cheeky one or a nice drawing so you wouldn't have to have flaws and imperfections highlighted - he could do a flattering one. You've got to be able to laugh at yourself though! (although I do completely understand that some people have very real self esteem issues and that is a different story).
Thinking back to my wedding and our guests, they would have had a right laugh with it! It would be great fun to go around and compare your pictures to others. I think you know your guests best so you'll be able to judge if they will like it or not - but I say go for it!
Let us know how it went if you do go for it!0 -
We went to a wedding that had this and it went down really well. People gathered behind the artist to watch and it provided an ice-breaker to talk about to people you don't know/haven't seen much lately. We didn't get one only because we'd had one done in Thorpe Park (lol) a week or so ago, and there was a massive group of people waiting to be done. We felt it was a bit rude as evening guests to push in front of the wedding party

If people don't like it, they don't, but I think a lot of people could have fun with it.
PS you could ask the artist to keep hold of pics til the end of the night/when he leaves, and give the sketches out afterwards when you next see people. That way you can have a cheeky flick through and have an excuse for meeting up post wedding
Just make sure the artist notes people's names on the back or something... Don't want to be giving the wrong ones out!! 0 -
Never been to a wedding with an artist there, but I've had 3 caricatures of me done before. First time I was absolutely horrified  But, several years later I still have the picture and can see the funny side (thankfully!)

I guess what people need to realise is that they are caricatures, and they will 'highlight' stuff you probably don't want. I imagine too if people are having a few drinks they'll be daring each other to go for it. Should be interesting!! :rotfl:Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -
Went to a wedding where there was disposable cameras on each table and a note from the bride asking for people to take pictures during the night.
It was really nice for her later to see people having fun and enjoying themselves at her wedding as you cant be everywhere.
Also going along with the idea of having an area with props. hats/feather boas/fake moustaches etc and some disposable cameras and letting guests have fun. Have seen them done with signs that guest can hold (sort of like the cheesy batman "Kablam" style signs of the seventies TV show). Really brings out the inner child in people.0 -

See I know a few brides who went down the disposable camera route and said there were utterly pointless, they either didn't get used, got taken away from the room or the pics that did get developed were so bad they were worthless.
I would go for a photobooth corner but I just don't think we will have the room, the venue only holds 50 in total so we might be a little tight for space. I might see if we can do something along those lines though
