If you went to a wedding...

Thanks for all of the input - for and against.
I know it's something I would be up for but if people generally aren't keen on it then there is no point spending the money.
I might look at the photobooth again, Ajaz would you let me know how you are doing yours? Whilst looking on Ebay I did see some scene setters and thought we could go with that sort of thing....do a tropical themed one as we will have just come back from the Maldives. Who is taking the photos for yours?xx

I like this idea and think people will just see it as a bit of fun. I've had a few done in the past ( never at a wedding) and have also has them done from pictures as gifts for others. I'm also considering having one of these I think the pictures will make nice keep sakes :-)Becoming Mrs L. Aug 2013!

Actually a bit gutted we didnt think of it! Even if he was to go around people as it means guests wouldnt have to stand up go over and miss out on the socialising!0

I've had one done at a friends wedding and loved it. It's also a nice souvenir of the day.0

I don't think they are 'entertainment' as such though, as you only spend 5 mins etc with the guy.
I think you'd get more than 5 minutes entertainment out of it because you'll spend more than 5 minutes watching them sketch other people. In fact I don't think I would class the 5 mins I spent sat on the chair being drawn as entertaining for myself, but the half an hour plus watching others being drawn would definitely be! I love watching artists draw others, and always stop to watch on holiday etc but would love it even more if it's people I knew!
Personally I like the idea, and prefer it to a photobooth (i think photos are more embarassing than sketchs, and there will be enough photos being taken throughout the day anyway!) but everyone is different and you know your guests and how likely they are to be 'up for it'.0 -
I'd think it was a really nice souvenir of the day! You could even do that instead of favours - leave a note on the back of the place setting or a luggage label or something that says something like 'Our gift to you - a hand-drawn portrait'.
Ooh, I've sold myself on it now, lol, how much is he likely to be?0 -
Thank you all.
Having had a bit of a think while I was washing up I realised that the same people in our guest list who wouldn't like a caricature wouldn't use a photobooth either.
The quote was around £250 for first two hours plus £50 an hour afterwards. I have also asked if he could do a colour caricature of us from our wedding day (easier as that's two weeks before the reception) and we will ask our guests to write messages/sign around it.
I haven't seen one picture that is piddle taking yet, something which would undoubtedly put people off and he only needs a little work space. Tough call!!

We had a small wedding - 24 people. We also had a caricaturist and it worked out brilliantly. Everyone bar 2 people had their picture drawn, and they all loved it. At the end of the night the caricaturist gave us the pictures. We then later scanned them into our computer for longevity, and then we posted them to our guests as a memento of the day.
I would say it was a great activity, filled some time, and it was our wedding, and what we wanted!
We also had a roulette table. Just the one, but it was also a huge hit on the night.0 -
There was one at a wedding i went to recently and I avoided it like the plague. Ive got low self esteem as it is without some dimwit highlighting all my bad bits for me0

Bit unfair to call him a dimwit just because he draws for a living?
My point is that is optional, I already know of a few guests that wouldn't want it and that would be fine, I will ask him not to push anyone. I think it will be one of those things where once someone does it others will follow but if people didn't want it done then thats fine too.
