Barclaycard PayTag

Have they sent you one without asking whether you want it or not?

My wife just got one yesterday. She didn't ask for it. Is this a common practice from Barclaycard?

Personally I don't want one, but it looks like I will get it anyway. I don't fancy any stickers in my phone that when stolen/lost would also give the thief access to my credit card money.

They sent me a letter saying they would be sending me one unless I opted out. There was a code on the letter which I could type into:

    http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/paytag/notforme

Since I don't use Barclaycard for purchases and will likely be away from the UK when the paytag would arrive, I opted out.

It seems from that link that the "opt out" deadline was 2nd August, but you can still phone them after it's arrived to let them know you don't want it on your account.
  • We got letters about those PayTags but honestly I didn't read mine. It just got binned straight away as I was not interested. I did not opt out so looks like I will just cut it into little pieces when it arrives.

    Thanks for the info.

I keep getting bugged about getting one when I log into Barclaycard. I don't want it either, it's just another reason for a pick pocket to target phones.

Im presuming for it to work you actually have to stick it on the phone? otherwise you could just leave it in a cupboard or shred it.

You don't need to stick it on a phone for it to work.

You could stick it on a banana if you like, and use your banana for payment.

I refuse to use one on the grounds that I have an NFC phone that is fully compatible with their QuickTap system if only they pulled their fingers out and released an app that worked on more than a small selection of Orange phones.

In fact if I did stick an RFID tag on the back of my phone it would mess up the ability to read any other tags, or use Android Beam for transferring information.

I'm personally waiting for Google Wallet to become available within the UK, it will certainly be extremely useful.

And yet those of us with an Orange credit card can't get one. Barclaycard and Orange seem to have a very strange relationship there. :(

People keep saying this, but there is more than enough reason for them to do it already... Though it makes the loss of a phone more irritating to sort out, I hardly think it would ever encourage more thefts. Phones are often worth hundreds - being able to use it to pay for a few pounds worth of goods isn't really that big a draw surely? They could easily run up more than that by abusing your contract - yet people happily take them out!

I've got it running on my GNex and got the free $15 from Google, but I've never actually managed to try it out anywhere!

I used my contactless Barclaycard in Subway once, but I've never been anywhere since that has the reader.

I understood Google Wallet was supposed to be enabled for the UK in time for the Olympics, but obviously that didn't happen.

I would not want this ither.

I still get blank looks from staff in shops when asking about using contactless payment.
