Some of you may know that I have kept one of the kittens born to homeless Lucy who my daughter took in temporarily when she found out about a pregnant cat living outside.

Fastforward 10 months (Macius was born 5th November) and I wonder if rehoming him would be better for HIM.

He is the best cat ever, confident, happy, jumps on my laps to cuddle up, sleeps with me, comes when called and generraly lovely - tiney for his age on those matchstick legs compared to my other 3 boys but then they are bigggggggggggggggggggg cats.

BUT - he is not happy indoors. Really not happy.

All my boys go out - I come home from work, take them down and let them out into communal garden and pick them up when it gets dark.

The other 3 are fine with that. In fact Fred does not even like going out (fridge is indoors and Fred likes guarding the fridge). But Macius - another story.

He practically THROWS himself at the front door and screams his head off wanting me to let him out all the time.

I do not let my boys out when I am not in so it is after work on weekdays and most of the day at weekends.

I now lost count of the times when Macius sneaked out of the door when I am going for work and RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN downstairs with me having to catch him and put him back inside.

He does the same when the dog walker comes to take Zara out - he sneaks out when she picks Zara up and when she drops her off.

He woild really be happy in a house with own safe garden and a cat flap.... not in an upstairs flat :(

Any ideas?

He is still a baby.. only 10 months old.

A fried of mine wanted to take him but although she lives in a house with garden away from main road - still one of her cats got run over just outside so I said no.....

Hmmmm

Love that cat to bits, he is a real character - never walks, he bounces around all the time.. Lovely little short haired tabby - his character is just like Chloe,.... :(

Such a difficult decision, gettingready, as you obviously love him very much and he sounds like such a sweet boy....

But I think you have already reached your conclusion? A safe, outside space for Macius sounds like the best for him. However, you do have the luxury of a little time, there is no urgency and so you could find him the absolutely purrfect home ;)

    Absolutely no urgency at all.

But if I come across a purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect home for him - still not sure I could let him go.

With Chloe there really was no choice, she hated the dog so much .. and she is happy where she is now with her own 2 human slaves.

And Macius has Chloe's character, he is not like my other 3 boys - he REALLY likes cuddles and demands them whenever he feels like it, jumps on me and falls asleep so I can not move. Purrs like mad, easts dry/wet whatever - no toruble at all this one.

BUT selfish me will keep him no matter what. Reasonable me thinks he would be happier in a house with a cat flap.

    Hmmmmmm

He loves Zara, gets on with any cats he meets - very brave with other dogs too. Real character.

Or perhaps he will calm down with age?

Quite possibly, but I think you're looking at at least a year or two before that happens ;)

None of my opther cats was like that and I had them all from kittens..hmmmmm

I just feel so sorry for him - every time I move - he runs to the door and literally throws himself at the door thinking I am going to let him out...

Awww it's lovely of you to post, Gettingready, I am sure it is very hard to seriously talk about. :( Some cats are happy indoors some not, I guess some have stronger instincts than others. Lulu needs a boyfriend but I can't offer anything better being a city centre flat.

You might post a feeler on Purrsinourhearts Cats Needing Homes board, the regulars there are wonderful and many know each other so you have that assurance.

Thanks, I know Purrs very well.

I am just not sure what to do really.

He is the best out of my 4 cats, ALWAYS sleeps with me (it normally involves him jumping onto me just as I am about to fall asleep, right onto my tum and makes me gasp for breath LOL), he ALWAYS comes when called, he is forever jumping onto my laps for a cuddle, head butts me like Chloe did but even right now - he is singing on top of his voice by the front door "let me outttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt".

I have found amazing homes for Chloe and Lucy myself. With Lucy's babies I had help from lovely people on Purrs, Sheila found a home for 2, Jo here took one and a Polish friend of mine took the other boy - they are all doing great and as much as I miss Chloe I know that she would never ever get used to Zara.

Macius - he loves Zara, gets on with all cats, has great temperament (if a bit mental but that is his age) so how can I ever?

On the other hand - I did not win the Euromiliions (again) so moving to a house with garden is not/will not be an option and he so much loves to go out - ALL the time... sighhhhh

If you got a fridge - sending Fred over lol

Fred is a proper indoor cat....as long as there is fridge within a running distance - Fred is a happy bunny :D

The thing is my cats are not indoors as such.
They go out every single day. George and Teddy love going out but if I do not let them out - they are fine too.
Fred, forever camping in the kictehn in case any food happens to be around., not botehred about going out at all.

    Macius -Macius is something else.....

I let my boys into the back communal garden and 3 of them stay in the garden, sometimes go into other gardens over the fence.

Macius - he runs all over the estate (not much cars but still) and often ends up at the front of the block miauuuuuuuuuuuuuing to be let beck in so he can run through the entrance and miauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu to be let again out to the back... sighhhh
  • Sure, he'll be fine. Your place is bursting with animals anyway it'd probably be a break for him and he'd get the outdoors he craves.

He gets on great with my other 3 boys and the dog, in fact he is always cuddled up with one of the boys or with Zara or with me..

I jusr re-read all 3 Lucy's threads and REALLY want to keep Macius.. he is the baby....

    Am I really being selfish?
