I get Aldi Tuna chunks and they are really good quality at 59p.
I have noticed how quickly prices have started to rise as well and I was talking to the manager in Aldi and he said that they are trying to keep prices down, but it won't last long. He also said that sales had trebled in the last year, and you can see a lot more posh cars in the car park. I am stocking up on as much as I can afford, if I have anything left from the shopping budget every week, just to weather the price hikes.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

This price-blindness seems to be a universal thing with the fellers. You can play a parlour game with a gentleman of any age, economic bracket, marital status, intelligence level, whatever variable you like to throw into the range.
Ask him to guess the prices of a variety of common household items and I can pretty much bet that the answer will a) be wrong and b) be a gross under-estimate.
Haha! I think that comes from years of being told;
"what this old thing dear? It only cost a fiver in the sales...."

So using this as a guide Aldi's will probably still be cheaper than the main supermarkets but because everyone is having to increase their prices eventually even Aldi's prices may be difficult to afford and we'll be buying less."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. I see that Aldi have an incinerator bin as a special this coming Thursday might be useful to some and strong wellington boots...and for anyone who wants to take their own Blood Pressure readings they have a machine on offer from today..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Does anyone know what the Aldi 'Super Six' fruit and veg is for the next fortnight? It changed today.
The last fortnight's one was really good - peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, plums, nectarines, and something else (can't remember that one) all for 69p a bag/punnet.0 -
Super six this week........ new potatoes, avocado, cucumber, beetroot, radishes and tomatoes 39p
Not very good for us really I will only use the potatoes, cucumber and tomsBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I was in a big Tesco with my Dad last weekend explaining how the Clubcard voucher swop worked and how we were getting £30 of cat food for free.......... it was interesting to see the penny drop.
Yeah them including pet food in the double up your vouchers thingy is a godsend isn't it? I got £21 quids worth = 40 odd tins dog food for about £1.20 :rotfl:

Mind you I've got one who doesn't notice anything anyway..so I can quite easily say I've had this for ages!!! He's loosing the plot anyway so no way he could argue it!

What will be you breaking point and what can you do about it ?,basically very little, we are all tightening our belts and doing without a lot of stuff that is superfluous to our needs.
Needs are what you can't do without, as opposed to wants,i.e. I need teabags, but want mouthwash ? I can do without mouthwash, but do without my cuppa no way. I may be using Sainsburys basic, but its not that bad, and it just needs steeping a bit more to make it stronger.Mouthwash I can do without, as I grew up without it so its not a necessity.
I was looking at the shelves in my local supermarket this morning and quite honestly I think that at least 50% of the stuff they are pushing to sell you is not required at all. I grew up without hair or clothing conditioner ,Mum made gravy from Bisto powder not granules (cheaper)a great deal of tinned stuff wasn't on sale during the 1940s-50s and we all survived.Pudding were made from pudding rice not out of a tin, as was custard from powder.I never tasted frozen food until the 1960s as my Mum never owned a fridge or freezer The first frozen stuff I tasted was peas, and thought they tasted like tiny BB pellets my brother would have in his air rifleso much stuff today is based on 'instant' feeding and very little on taste. I'm not saying that food today isn't good, it is, and far better kept than the sometimes mouldy cheese that we had to cut the mould off before we made toasted cheese with it,but if we are honest an awful lots of stuff can be made a lot less expensively that it is.
I sometimes wonder what do we do with all the time saved from instant food or tiime saving gadgets, I don't see many folk with their feet up enjoying their 'time saved' at all.
What unecessary stuff can you think of that you could do without do you think ?0 -
Totally agree Jackie O,
entertainment wise and for safety I hope I can always keep the phoneline and internet, It's a lifeline to the world and cheaper than going out socialising especially if you have to use buses and taxis(but in some ways it is true that you become a bit of a loner)then again I can access books, radio, tv and much more on here.
I have enough clothes and not bothered that they are not the latest style so some are 99p from the CS or years old. I eat mainly basic stuff and make it go further. The killer is the rent,CT and coming BT plus the electric and gas CH which should be essentials but I try to save on and probably would happily have the gas CH removed to avoid paying at least one standing charge but I do use it to get warm water otherwise I go back to using warmer clothes, blankets and fleeces and diving under the duvet.
Not sure I could cut back much further...and living with a long running health condition and having to accept state help it will get more difficult but I doubt many of us would be any better off moneywise working, in work you are perhaps more involved in society socially but just on pure income alone no, not if single. For now I can manage but if things really get bad i may have to look into getting a lodger. Which I understand I can consider.
That will be an adventure in itself...and I hope something I won't regret.
Tesco's have reduced Princess corned beef still further to £1.49 and Spam similarly..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
