Possessive dog

I have a 3 and a half year old neutered CKCS. He's 99% perfect.... the 1% imperfection is that he is particularly possessive when it comes to rawhide. As I have a 1 year old spayed female too we've had a few nasty scuffles but today was the worst....
He took a rawhide I'd given him a few days ago (he doesn't always want the rawhide, but when he does, look out!) and went out into the hall in the corner and started to chew it. After a while he'd chewed it up. My female also was working on a rawhide, and he came into the living room and snatched it from her. Naturally, she chased him out into the hall and they got into yet another scuffle. I break it up by grabbing the female - she is very small and the male is more than twice the size. I then try to take the rawhide from the boy and he is growling at me and when I try to make a grab for it, he tried to go for me
I started shouting and for some reason whilst growling he peed on my floor  My husband had to drag him out of the room so he didn't try to go for me or the female and the male is now guarding this rawhide in the crate my husband has put him in and is growling at us every time we walk past. I don't know what to do - this breed is supposed to be friendly

Can I ask why he was put in the crate WITH the rawhide????
You also know he is aggressive with these.....so why does he still get them......or be allowed to be in a situation, when they are about, to do as he pleases i.e go up to the other dogs one0 -

He was put in the crate as we couldn't get the rawhide from his mouth without being bittenHe's in there right now as we are frightened of letting him out with him still growling at us.
I won't be buying rawhide ever again, thats for sure.0 -
OP, without seeing the dog , nobody on a forum can give you advice. How I/others deal with dominant dogs may make his problems worse as you really need a bigger picture when dealing with dominance issues.
He may not be a dominant dog at all but has learn't this from previous encounters between you , him and a rawhide.
Peeing(when getting told off) is a submissive trait(or dog is scared, nervous). Growling /Guarding is usually a dominating trait (not always)
I think from the little you say, that a sesion with a trainer would be useful.....not for the dog, but to learn you how to deal with such behavior and not let it happen again or in future dogs.0 -

Oh my God! You can't put up with that kind of behaviour from him!
When the rawhide is gone, and you're not getting any more, you can start working on his training - I know it's hard with a dominant dog but how can you live with a dog you're afraid of?
How long have you had him?0 -
Do you have access to a behaviourist on your pet insurance?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I've had him since he was 10 weeks old. Its really upsetting for me, as he's such a lovely dog. He turns Mr Hyde when it comes to rawhide. I've since managed to grab the rawhide by opening the crate door and tempting him out with some ham. He dropped the rawhide in favour of the ham. He's done nothing but sulk all evening since it was confiscated. He went for my female when she tried to go in her crate (its her crate) despite the rawhide no longer being in there. I've had to nip out for an hour so took the female with me to be on the safe side and left him in the house. When I came back it was like nothing has happened....0 -

I had a CKCS (she passed away last Aug), she was the most softest loving dog. I have never met or heard of a vicious or possessive King Charles, I thought they were all soft, friendly and loving.
If you give him a treat, would/does he growl if you take it away from him? Does he work for his treats & rawhide (ie: sit, paw etc)?
You could start by giving him something tasty so he gives up the rawhide and then give him it back if he works for it, that way he will know if it is taken away from him he can have it back.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

I know, we've had this breed before and have not seen anything quite like this behaviour. If I give him a treat and take it away, he's fine (I do make him do tricks for them) - it seems to be the rawhide only that he has issues with.0 -
Ive got the softest cavalier king charles spaniels you could ever meet. Ive never seen any agression from either of them ever.
As for standing there peeing, it reminded me of when we were on holiday in our caravan. Our dogs have very delicate tummies and i have to be careful what they eat because they have explosive diorreah. Anyway, we'd been to the local chippy for our tea and ate them outside the van but I couldnt eat all mine. As usual the owners sheepdog was roaming round and i gave him a handful of chips. Well my dog took great offense so she ran into the caravan, straight on my sons bed squatted and peed. I can only see it as an act of defiance as she had never done that before and never pees indoors. Luckily the sleeping bag/bedding and all the stuff piled on top of the matress stopped the wee from soaking through but we never forgot, not only is she a dog, she has feelings too.:DThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
