Lagos Portugal

Hi,
After spending most of yesterday surfing and trying to decide where to go for a 10-14 day break from the 1st May, I have finally decided to go to Lagos with my partner. I have been on the usual holiday sites and thought Lagos sounded a good place to discover the Algarve and its natural beauty for the first time.
Now, I have got to book the flight from Liverpool or Manchester and a 4* star hotel B/B or half board or a nice villa with pool. Anyone been on a similar search and had any good results? I have had the Tivoli Hotel 4* up for £582.00 each B/B for 10 days but this has received mixed reviews and I really want this to be a good holiday. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I can vouch for this place:
http://www.algarve-bandb.com/
It is about 40 minutes from Lagos, about midway between there and the airport at Faro.
The owners are English, there are only 2 guest rooms, and there pool is always empty!0 -
I have used both these sites, http://www.valgarve.com/ and http://www.lanterna.co.uk/
I used the first one to book a honeymoon villa with pool in Praia da Luz which is only a 5-10 min drive away. Both companies will have properties in or closer to lagos
If you dont see what you are looking for the ask, my villa wasnt actually on the site0 -
About 15 years ago I spent one day in Lagos and thought it was beautiful and always wanted to go back.
No help to you, but hope you find what you are looking for and enjoy your holiday0 -
I can beat Edinburghlass 'cos i was there 26 years ago It was a great place then The beaches beside the cliffs were great Make sure you try out the food in the beach huts on the main beach. We found it to be terrific We also spotted a greta Rose wine in the local supermarkets. It was dirt cheap and better than Matteus It was called Moinhus .....I think

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I had a look at the sites by Lally and was impressed. I will have to spend some time tying in the days with the flight and availabilities. My only worry is the transport from the airport, probably would get the train from Faro airport to the resort and then sort out a cab to the villa. It seems a bit daunting as I have not stayed in a villa before but it is very tempting after looking at the Casa Refugio Praia Do Carvoeiro in the Valgarve site that worked out at £450.00 and the flights were coming in from £290.00 from Liverpool totalling £740.00 with transfers and food. I've also had a look at James Villas which had been recommended on this site. I've just realised the villa is rental per week so would actually cost £1000.00! Yikes...0 -
Hi there,
My husband and I are off to Lagos this thursday, we got a villa from James Villas that was only £189 for a week!
We found our flights on this site:
Flights from Manchester from £100 return http://www.lowfareflights.co.uk/Manchester-Faro.htm
There is a very cheap flight (£49 per adult return inclusive!) if you could change you plans and go for a week departing on the 5th May:
http://www.xl.com/flightonlydeals/flightonlydeals_all.asp
We also found very cheap car rental here (although going in May means you have to pay mid-season prices):

Good luck and have a lovely time!0 -

Valerie King at Valgarve arranged a taxi for us. The driver was waiting in arrivals with our name on a clipbpard, we were taken straight to his Mercedes and driven straight to the villa. I think it was around £90 for the return trip. He picked us up to ake us there also. You pay the driver.
If you search you will find there are other taxi companies who offer the same service. We had alread booked one but Valeries quote was cheaper and the original comapny had no problem with us cancelling.
I would highly recommend Praia Da Luz and Lagos, have been there at least a dozen times. The map of the algarve looks quite small but in reality of lagos is the place you like then I think Carvoeiro would be too far away for you.0 -
Forgot to say, the Portuguese in my opinion are the most laid back people in the world! Dont expect a train service like ours, there are maybe about 4 a day from Faro to Lagos, and it takes hours to get there. Spend the little extra and get the taxi direct, you will be pleased you did.0

Hi,
Thanks very much for all your help. I am really hoping I can sort this out as Lagos sounds beautiful. I have found flights on lowfair for £113.00 each for 10 days which is very good, insurance with Direct Travel for £20.00 for both of us and now I have to find the accommodation...0 -
Hi.
It's all booked! Flight with flymonarch.com for two 10th to 22nd May £253.16, Hotel 4*B&B Solar De Mos £407.59 with alpha rooms, and Direct Travel Insurance £22.00 (stated £20.00 yesterday!)
Phew, now I can work on avoiding the chocolate until the 10th!0
