Hi All,
Sorry if this is a repeat but I did use the search function
Ok I rent from the council and they are taking down my(everyone's) sky dish to clean up the building. They have put up a communel dish that we are required to connect to BUT because I have sky(for 10yrs+) the charge to connect is £75 for each room that has sky and £25 for free view rooms and also pay £0.81p a wk for 8 and a half yrs. When I joined sky I did phone and ask the council if I could do it but they said at my discretion.
I have spoken to sky about getting their engineer to connect me under my sky protection policy but they state they cannot touch the council dish. I have spoken to the Switch over help team( I have a disabled child and was offered a free view box) but they cannot help. Is there anyway I can get the council to pay for this seeing how I do not want it? or will I have to just suck it up and pay for it

Only someone at your Local Council can answer this, I'm afraid.0

Sky themselves won't touch this with a barge pole. The dish will have been erected by an independent satellite installer, and they will be the only company allowed to work on it.
Sucks, but it's the way most communal installs work. Same as mine.0 -
When you installed your original dish, you would have needed written permission from the Council as this is classed as an alteration. What did the Council say in this letter? (In your contract with Sky you may have also confirmed that your had the permission from the Council).
If you have not got this permission the Council are within their rights to remover the dish and charge you for the privledge, and also charge you for any damage that has been caused.
With regards to the new connection. Its a bit unclear what you are saying, are you saying that you no longer want sky?, or that you don't want to pay for the Council to do the work?0 -
Thanks for the replies. The council didn't give me written permission because the guy I spoke to said they wouldn't but I could do it at my discretion he said. I did want to keep my sky subscription but I feel the charge to connect one room with a sky box to the councils dish is pricey (£75) if I had freeview I would get the living room done for free but because its sky I must pay.
Looks like i'm just going to have to pay Avoline(the communal dish company) is getting ratty with me but thanks again0 -

It seems like a bargain to me. Usually it's around £150.I would get the living room done for free but because its sky I must pay.0 -

Not necessarily,as the is often a blanket wayleave in place to cover satellite & cable installations on council properties. The only time I've ever had an issue has been when installing cable on a first floor flat & the flat below was owned (bought off the council) in which case a wayleave agreement was needed.0
