Oh no qoc!
Do you have a decent repair shop near you? We have a very good one in a nearby town which we only found out about through a casual remark of a friend. They're brilliant and will have a look at it for free and tell you if they can sort it or not. When my lappy was very poorly recently they sorted it and fitted a new keyboard for £35.
Might be worth asking round? Hope you get it sorted.
Edit: see you've got it to switch on now - good luck!
It just died againthanks for the tip, I will ask around

Got some spray earlier and seems to have relieved it
Good. You would wet yourself laughing if you knew some of the things that people put in their ears!
Keep them dry too in case there is the beginning of an infectionWe also use our local shop for the main computer, twice we had computers die on us and they built new computer to our spec with XP etc. I am not sure what would happen now as I use an ancient laptop for ebaying, Amazon, facebook and general surfing. Also the ipad for the same, photos, sending emails. So if the main computer died could I live without it altogether ...
The main problem is that I am a keyboard hammerer so at least with the main computer I can change the keyboard when I trahs them :0
I have a desktop but it's in another room and I am too lazy.
