So bloody furious with myself - Very Catalogue

Hi all,

Don't think anyone can help as I'm bang to rights, but thought I'd asl nonetheless.

I purchased a pair of shoes for my partner from the very.co.uk website. They came, I paid, problem solved. What I didn't realise, because I didn't bother to look hard enough obviously, was that they'd charged me delivery seperately at £6.95. I assumed I'd paid up and as such didn't check my statements.

The next month I happened to look and I'd missed the minimum payment of £6.95 and incurred a late payment fee. Furious with myself I naturally paid the lot up straight away, only to incur a late payment marker on my Experian credit file.

My question is, can I get it removed as it's a plight on my otherwise perfect credit file, and it's £6.95 for christ sake.

I'm not disputing it's my fault, I haven't been taken for a ride or screwed like most people claim, it's just bloody annoying! What effect would this have to prospective lenders if I choose to borrow in the future, do they just notice the marker or do they take into consideration I've bought and paid for over £3k of stuff through very.co.uk in the last few years and this is the only time I've slipped up.

Sounds like a hard luck story I know, but I'm a plum.

Cheers.

Very catalogue we're well within their rights to issue you a late marker getting removed no chance as its the law now that everything has to be noted correctly to the CRA's.
  • I have to agree - it is an accurate fact that you were late in paying.

You say you have an otherwise perfect credit record. In this case, a single late payment marker will do no significant or lasting damage to your credit record.

You have made an honest mistake, as almost everyone does at some point. It will not overly concern potential lenders looking at your credit record - especially after a coupe of months pass.

Not true someone with a late marker whatever way you look at it looks a higher risk to Someone without.

I'd ask them to remove it given that you paid as soon as you noticed - they can remove it and there's no harm in asking - if you don't ask you don't get!

Agreed, but I did qualify my comment that no "significant or lasting" damage is done by a single marker in isolation.

If the late account returns to a 0 marker for the following months, and all other accounts are flawless, then the attached risk weighting is low.

explain the circumstances (politely of course)
    ask them to remove it
if they don't close your account and don't deal with them again

and of course be more careful in future
  • Assuming you don't have any luck in having the marker removed you can ask Experian to add a note to your credit file explaining the circumstances of the late payment.

Having the late payment on your file shouldn't result in an automatic refusal of credit facilities in future but it might mean that any applications you do make are passed to a human underwriter for review rather than being accepted by the computer. Having an explanatory note on there means that the human underwriter can look at that and understand the situation.

You maybe able to appeal to them, but they will say why have you not checked your statement. I would also recommend delivery to collect plus shop, as its free as it will be a local news agents
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

IMO having a notice of correction will do more harm than good.
Automated requests for credit will almost certainly be refused or referred to an underwriter (if they can be bothered).
Again IMO let things be and in a few months it will be ignored.
