Working tax credits - simple question?!

Hi

I'm hoping this will be a simple question and answer! We have four children and receive working tax credits and child tax credit. Can you tell me what joint income myself and husband are allowed to earn before it affects our entitlement. I work part time so there is no child care costs, hubby is self employed. Have been trying to get through to HMC but after listening to a recorded message for nearly five minutes and several options, it says its busy and try again later! Any help appreciated - thank you.

    Why does it matter?
  • Why does it matter why it matters?!

Because it looks like you dont want to work anymore than necessary,so you wont loose out on benefits.Think thats why.
  • Bit presumptuous and slightly offending. I am looking for a job that pays more but for the same hours. It isn't that I do not WANT to work anymore hours, I am NOT ABLE to work anymore hours as I am helping to nurse my elderly mother, looking after four children and trying to run a house on a limited budget. I merely did not want to disclose my personal details in my original post.
  • Didnt mean to offend you. Just the way the your post was written.

I think its around 7 or 8k you can earn before they reduce TC etc. You must be worn out!!!! I have 4 children and just about cope with them, never mind all the other stuff you have going on!!! x
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea
  • Thank you Gingeree - yes, I am quite worn out - health suffering at the moment too, but I think that's down to the added stress of school holidays. Not quite so bad as when I had the four of them under five years old, but still hard work!!

Do you mean just my income at 7k or 8k? Think I found a page right at the front of this website about Working Families Tax Credit and it said maximum with four children is £76,000!!!!! Stresses would dissolve if that amount of money was coming in!!!

Thank you for taking time to reply.

Having four children is a full time job in itself! I'm suprised you have time for a part time job let alone more hours. I wish people would stop making parents feel guilty for wanting to raise their children and not feel they have to put them in childcare and go out to work all the hours that they possibly can.

Regarding the working tax credit, the best time to get thorough to the HMC I have found is around 11am.

We had 4 children but way back in the dark ages:rotfl: when you were expected to support your family yourself.

We worked shifts opposite each other so one of us was always at home taking care of our responsibilities.

I still consider it wrong to expect taxpayers, who limit their own family on affordability, to support those who have large families they cannot support without state help.
