    btw is it possible that the bank could have informed me over the phone had my credit card loan had been sold to some debt collector?

    The only reason I am saying this as I do know someone who's been in the exact same position with MBNA years ago and he was also trying to pay them but they had no recollection of his account anywhere.

    It's very rare these days for it to happen more so years ago but on rare cases it will happen.
