Using a contract phone abroad
Apart from not taking it, what's the bomb proof way of taking a mobile abroad. The hotel has free wifi, how do i set up the phone to only access internet through the wifi.
Its a Samsung Galaxy Ace. Ive seen about disabling 3G & data roaming, how do i check for apps running in the back ground etc.
Regards

Switch data roaming off.
Switch mobile internet off as well to make it bullet-proof.
No apps will not be able to use mobile data.
Don't forget that you will be charged for incoming calls and even for voice mails (even if you don't check them).0 -
If I don't want to use data I turn off both data connection and data roaming in the "Mobile Network Settings".
You could also create a new "dummy" APN with "wrong settings" and select that.
Putting your contract SIM in an old "dumb" phone and a PAYG sim for your own network in your smart phone would be extremely safe.0
