Stansted Airport Short Term Parking / Pick Up / Drop Off

Stansted Airport set down / pick up price gouging is no longer funny

"Set Down / Drop off" is no longer free at any time - the road has a barrier - buses only

You now HAVE to drop people off in a car park. £2 for 10 mins, £3 for 15 mins
(otherwise £100 - and people were complaining that the number plate recognition sometimes failed which meant you had to go and argue with someone not to be charged the £100)

Short term parking to pick someone up is very expensive.
£5 for 25 mins,
£9.30 over 50 mins !! (so by the time you walked to the terminal and back...)

Some ideas... places to wait for people at.

About 3/4 of a mile from the aiport
- The Four Ashes pub in Thakeley, CM22 6SB
- The Three Horseshoes, Mole Hill Green, CM22 6PQ
(at the roundabout with the entrance to set down road / short term parking, take the Takeley exit, then immediately at a mini roundabout, turn left (3 Horseshoes) Green, or go straight on(4 Ashes)

About 10 mins away
- in Dunmow is a large Tesco with a cafe - CM6 1SF

I have seen armed police patrolling this area and moving people on who appear to be waiting to be picked up so dont even bother trying to pick up there.

It's quite possible to pick people up in the drop-off zone at Stansted, so long as they're already there ready to jump in the car.

(p.s. Just because the police are armed doesn't mean they're going to shoot you!)

No but if they tell you to move on are you going to argue with them? I'm not in case they wonder why I am refusing and decide to arrest me.

I tend to use a park and go service when I visit Stansted - this one is definitely recommended.

Rather than the faff of long term parking or getting someone to pick the other half and myself up, we just park and get a lift to the terminal. When you consider the stress of flying, particularly if it's for a longer holiday, I reckon it's worth using one of those services.
