Urgent help plse for 1st class train fares to Cornwall - what am I doing wrong?

I did walk up and down every hour, a long way each time, but it didn't stop the discomfort.

You could try this for an option?
Sandy to Exeter St Davids via Honiton (this goes via London Waterloo and is 1hr 27 min slower than via Paddington) then get some tickets from Exeter to Falmouth docks.

12th Oct Sandy to Exeter St Davids dep 10:15 arr 15:42 1st Advance single £87 19th Oct Exeter St Davids dep to Sandy dep 14:26 arr 19:30 1st Advance single £68 (you need to catch the 10:50 from Falmouth docks to make the connection)

Couple that with an Off Peak Return Exeter to Falmouth Docks £69 (Standard Class only) gives a total of £224

Can't comment on the quality of the 1st class from Waterloo to Exeter, but if you want 1st class from Exeter to Falmouth your will have to further split your tickets up at somewhere like Truro.

Its only a five hour journey, at most. Since you are worried about the price, couldn't you compromise and buy a normal class ticket?

Thankyou for looking that up Livingthedream, I don't like the idea of splitting the tickets anywhere though, in case something goes wrong, as Martin has mentioned before.

I know it's a 5 hour journey, I have done it several times - (ONLY a 5 hour journey!!) - most of those times standard class, but I explained why I am concerned in an earlier post.

I appreciate your annoyance, but I'm not really sure what you expect here? People have given you alternatives, but they don't suit you. So it looks like you will just have to pay the higher price and maybe next year try to arrange the trip so it's mid week to mid week.

Hope the sun shines for you and you have a great trip however you get there

I wasn't annoyed, just frustrated that the person hadn't read my earlier post where I mentioned that I was at risk of a DVT & reading between the lines couldn't understand why I wasn't wanting to go standard class. I very much appreciate people's help on here.

Thankyou for the link Livingthedream, I'll be honest, I wouldn't have a clue how to split the tickets. Plus I like the idea of just buying the tickets online and that's it. I would get totally confused trying to sort out different tickets and splitting etc., and worried about doing something wrong.

This happened on a day trip to the Ideal Home Show this year. Myself and my daughter had bought return tickets to London, including the underground, and had supposedly bought - according to the man in the ticket office - tickets where we could come back any time of day. We'd had enough and were shattered at 5 o'clock and wanted to come home but the bloke at the station said we'd have to hang on until 7 o'clock because the tickets didn't cover any earlier times!
