UN-Registering from Self Assessment

I made a mistake in registering for Self Assessment - I am trying to return to PAYE
My tax situation is not straight forwards but not so complex that PAYE should not be able to handle it ...(despite major mistakes by HMRC last tax year (eg over 30 coding notices sent to me))
I am now having problems filling in the on-line forms
I have "removed the service" from my on-line account - and in so doing - have lost the ability to send emails to HMRC...
Can someone tell me - whether, in removing the service - this will achieve the desired results - if not - how do I do it ?

You need to ring HMRC and speak to them.
They will tell you whether you must fill in a SA form. Normally it isn't a choice.

Here we go again - I am unable to speak on the phone
What does "UNREGISTERING " do then ?0 -
I presume what you have done is just removed SA from your online Government account.
Have you got someone else who could speak to HMRC on your behalf? (Sorry I'm not aware of your reasons for not being able to speak to HMRC).

Sorry - no I don't - I guess another letter is called for.....
What about timing?
Will I be able to return to PAYE at this point in the FY?0 -
Isn't it slightly unbeliveable that we are well into the second decade of the 21st century and still are unable to email a government department directly ?
I mean THE government department who deal with the most important thing to most of us - our personal finances
And when they get things wrong - who gets the blame ?
US - With virtually no come back
Sorry - but HMRC are a joke0 -
Hi OP.
Do you have a text phone? Ive got one and its much easier to use than talking to them and using all my energy and forgetting what they've said or what I'm supposed too:o It keeps a log of the call too, so you can recall info if required.
Otherwise, it looks like it'll be snail mail for you.
Just found this and it states to write to inform them.http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/dealingwith/changes/close-sell-business.htm

I do - but the buttons stick - so I can't use it !!
Is it necessary to fill in a form to come off SA - Or just write to them asking to be removed ?
I have only been registered for 5months - and my tax paid for the year in question (2011/12) tallies almost exactly with what I am supposed to have paid - I worked as a consultant for 3 days and was planning on putting in a claim for tax relief on travel - which, I assume will be out of the question on PAYE ?0 -
You worked as a consultant in 11/12 tax year? And it was on a self-employed basis?
In which case I can't see how you would be able to go back to PAYE.
Do you have other taxable income that isn't covered by PAYE?

I worked for 3 x 1/2 days - earning a total of £121 for a friend who runs a company
And the rest of my income is ill health pension0 -
You will have to fill in a tax return for as long as they send the notification to you even if all the figures are zero it still must be filled in and sent back to them.
Given that you were only registered as self employed for 5 months you will probably have to fill in at least one perhaps two tax returns showing zero self employed income and stating that you are no longer self employed (this all will depend on dates that you first registered as self employed and how much PAYE tax you have paid)
You can be fined if you do not fill them in , usually you are sent a reminder in April if you are supposed to fill in a tax return so make sure that you continue to do a tax return until they no longer send notices out to you.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480
