Need a very lightweight vacuum cleaner

Options
I've got a big, very heavy Sebo X4 Extra vac that is absolutely fantastic for cleaning my carpeted and laminate floors. However, it's extremely heavy and sometimes I just want to use something very light for just to remove surface dust.

So, i'm looking for a very lightweight vacuum cleaner that is easy to move around and can clean laminate and carpeted floors to a reasonable extent. Rechargeable would be ideal.

Under £200 would be great too! I'm not too fussed about bagless/bagged. As long as it can pick up surface dust, biscuit crumbs, cornflakes, etc then it'll do.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!

Ive always bought Dyson in the past, but when it went wrong a few weeks back I decided I could no longer use another Dyson as they are much too heavy for me and far to over priced..............

So I went to local Co op and I bought a Electrolux T8 bagless cylinder hoover,it came recommended, its a super little lightweight machine and its got a lot of power, ive got wooden floors and rugs down and it works beautiful on both types, and its got a washable hepa filter, with tools, at only £69.99, you cant get better.............

A few months ago we bought a Zanussi (Electrolux by any other name) lightweight stick vacuum to replace a rechargeable carpet sweeper and have been very pleased with it. It's just enough for a quick whizz round 'between cleans' - and particularly useful for clearing crumbs after a meal. The fact that it is very, very light can be hard to get used to (go to pick it up and before you know it is three feet off the ground!) but easy to manoeuvre on all surfaces.

Ewbank sweepers are the classic product for the quick between vacuuming tidy up.
  • Many lightweight vacuums are small in size too. You may need to think about a few things:

    - do you want an upright cleaner, which will help poor backs/wrists?
    - bagless is better as you don't need to worry about buying dust bags in future and most containers are super easy to empty
    - most vacuums will be able to cope with different types of floor, although Dysons have motorised brush bars which really dig up dirt from carpets.
    - have you thought about cordless vacuum cleaners which are even lighter?

There is a very good lightweight vacuum cleaner website which reviews many different products available. They even have a comparison chart:

    Good luck

I actually find my cylinder much easier with my bad wrists. Although I do have to lift and move it around to different areas of the room, I'm not using my wrist the entire time to move and turn the whole thing while using it.

we have this one. It is really light but has a great suction and its great on carpet or hard flooring. Weve tried lots of diffrent vaccums but this is the best by far. It was £139 when w bought it 2 months ago at argos

and take about ten times longer to clean the floor
  • I've had a Dyson for about 10 years now and admittedly it is heavy, however I believe they do much lighter ones now. Currently borrowing a hoover from a friend and its awful. Will definately be buying a new dyson soon.

I have had my first dyson DCo4 for 10 years and it has been very good but near it's sell by date. The problem though is that it is too heavy. Takeing it up the stairs is bad enough but comeing down is awful. You more or less have it in front of you and can't see the stair and I have fallen down them quite a few times. I would like the dysonball and there are very light only thing is they are not very powerful. I have a dog and 2 kids and need a quite a powerful machine. There is one that I like DC41 animal but at nearly £400, is beyond a joke.
