Has anyone used Vietnam Airlines long haul??

We have a 'trip of a lifetime' booked flying with Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and on to Tokyo. However, some reviews online are terrible - especially in terms of seat recline not working, broken entertainment system, families split up due not allowing seat reservations in advance regardless of them getting to airport extremely early. Just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of flying with them long haul? People naturally only post bad things!

Would it not have been better to research airlines prior to booking?
Some may prioritise comfort over price and vice versa - If you have already booked the flight, then it is a case hoping for the best.
If it's any consolation, even the supposed 'better' airlines get bad reviews.0 -
I'd check out the menu fully before picking your in-flight meal

PS. Be careful crossing the road in HCMC - if you can that is!0 -
Ive only used them for short haul in Vietnam itself but I thought they were really good. Dirt cheap prices with the service of BA. I was pretty impressed.0

I used them domestic within Vietnam itself this March, they were ok, plane was a bit grubby inside but it stayed in the sky!0

LOL!!!!
Flying with them as got an awesome deal on a 9 day holiday going - Gatwick - Hanoi - Tokyo - HCMC - Gatwick, all for £509pp. I've always wanted to go to Vietnam (layover is a night), SWMBO has always wanted to go to Toyko so works very well. Oddly, the cost of just going on the same flight to Hanoi and not on to Tokyo was considerably higher. Go figure.0 -
Vietnam and Tokyo are two of my most favourite places in the world. Youll have a great time!0
