Master Class kitchenware guarantee

We were bought a set of Master Class knives about six years ago. One of the blades has broken, the end snapped clean off whilst it was being used. I don't have the leaflet that came with the knives so no idea if there was something we were meant to keep so we could claim against the guarantee. From what I've read on the internet, the knives are guaranteed for 25 years. I have scoured the internet and cannot find a Master Class website. I have also tried to find out if another company owns the brand, no luck. Does anyone know how you claim on the guarantee and whether we'll be able to since we don't have a receipt for the knives or the guarantee?

Any help gratefully received!!!

  • Unfortunately they were a gift so not sure. I'm going to ask my inlaws just on the off chance they remember.
  • It'll likely be a manufactures guarantee for 25 years rather than the retailer. Can you not find any contact details for the manufacturer at all? If they have gone out of business it is likely you have no rights.

But if the OP toddles off to the shop and they still sell them they might have contact details...

lots of retailers sell them, apparently.

    anyway OP

they are a brand produced by Thomas Plant of Birmingham

    Blue text indicates a link;)

See! no reason to toddle anywhere now.

What did we do before the internet eh?

  • Thanks guys. Valli, cheers for the details, I'm usually quite good at finding out these things but this one had me stumped. Looks like Thomas Plant own Kitchen Craft which came up in a number of searches but thought they were just a retailer. Will try the the Kitchen Craft website. Hopefully they'll be able to help.
  • Kitchencraft are going to send me a replacement knife
  • I've had the same issue, took them back to BHS but they told me I was using the knife incorrectly if it snapped. No refund without the receipt.
  • Try the kitchencraft website http://www.kitchencraft.co.uk/ I contacted them through the Contact Us link and provided them with a photo of the broken knife, they sent me a new one. We didn't have a receipt either but proof you have one of their knives is probably enough.

I wondered if the tip gets weak when it's put in the dishwasher blade sign down.

Umm... highly unlikely. Dishwashers don't reach temperatures that get anywhere near changing the tempering of the metal and the cleaning agents (while strong enough NOT to want to put your hands into) should have no effect either. You might sometimes see surface discolouration but it is definitely surface only.

It's much more likely to be a fault incurred during the rolling and stamping of the blade. Honest :)
