Yes, it was.Could have been dangerous though - I was very nervous at the time (which may be why CD was so attentive?).
All worked out ok though - CD earned them all chicken wings for lunch today by her exemplary behaviour (that and the vet's bill being less than expected, decided me to get them all a treat - £2 for eight chicken wings wasn't bad, I thought? My treat cost the same - a packet of baklava which ended up being my supper, oops; was too tired to cook.).
Ha - the dogs know I left the meat in the van; at the moment FD is shouting at me to go and fetch it - greedy thing! (Am ignoring her).

Yes, I am relieved, for now.Dear Vet got down on her knees and gave both old dogs a cuddle before we said farewell yesterday. I got the feeling she half expects that they'll take matters into their own paws before long, and she won't see them again.

Good point! Am probably being a bit over-sensitive in the olfactory department - dog's breath has never been a favourite scent!0 -

Hello WorLd!
Mistress is sleeping. My turn to play with her talking box.
Why you ask? Why not I bark! Door here will not open for teeth and paws so I am bored.
My job is looking after Mistress. Not much to do when she sleeps except watch her - and stop blankets falling off of course.
Shame she shut the door behind Old Uncle and Aunt before going back to bed. Now Sun is up I should be outside too; checking that pesky cat is off our garden (he sleeps in the woodshed). Mistress is too kind to him - he repays her gifts of food and shelter by doing his business in the places Mistress has planted things - rude ungrateful wretch!
Last night Young Master who carries scents of the city visited us. Is good for Mistress to talk with her own kind; I notice she does not do it much any more. Young Master gave me cheese - very tasty! - when he cooked vegetables for them. He wanted to cook chicken too but Mistress stopped him; told him it's my rewardso I kept quiet! Mistress should know I would do anything for her not needing presents except for being loved, but is still nice to get extras.
Looking forward to dinner today.
Oops she's waking up - time for me to go!
Love and Licks to all Mistress's friends in the box,
Clever Dog xxx

Hello Diary, dear MSE friends - and Clever Dog <what have you been getting up to now?> :hello:pinch punch first of the month
Thank you for that, NewLeaf; letting out your inner child I see.
And thanks for reminding me to give the finances a 'new month' revision. End result is -£600 on one CC, the others coming down nicely at 0%. Death Duties Fund has hit four figures and the Living Expenses Float is enough for a month plus any last minute xmas things. The CC cost me £2 interest, but hopefully I can get rid of that in the next couple of weeks when my pension goes in. <May blessings rain down on DH's employer!>
Alas the Battle of the Bulge is not going so well. There have been far too many evenings when the dinner of least effort has been necessary in order to have dinner at all; baked potatoes and butter are not a good attack plan, especially topped off with dunking biscuits raided from the xmas stash.. I know this. Baad Robin!Back to 75kg. <sigh>
Today's amusement is supposed to be - finally - bathing the old dogs. That's if my assistant turns up. Otherwise it's another afternoon in the garden, weeding.Either option is fine by me.

Hello Diary and Dear Friends, :hello:
Good morning from Dog-Washing-Central!The house smells positively floral this morning (as opposed to miasmatic in the environs of the Old Dogs). Blind Dog put up with the ordeal with his usual noble stoicism, but Old Auntie found it a terrible insult and cried quietly all the way through. She's such a hairy dog that despite soaking four towels and combing a large bucketful of shedding fur out of her coat in an effort to dry her off, she was still damp last night. So she abandoned her place by DH's bed and decided to sleep as close to the stove as possible, wrapped in an old duvet.
This morning we watched the dawn together and she's now sunning herself on the patio, which I hope will get rid of any residual dampness.
Must say, it is very satisfying to see both the Old 'Uns looking like dogs who are loved and cared for again, rather than smelly vagrants.
Once the B.A.T.H.ing was done, DS3 helped me to clean all the floors, chairs and dog-beds - banishing the miasma completely.
It was about time; I've been here over a month now though sometimes it feel like forever.. Except that DH is missing, of course.
We didn't have time to go up to DH's cottages unfortunately; bet that has to wait until DS4 arrives - I do want someone to come with me as it is going to be the hardest and most final part of acknowledging that DH is gone from my life.
Instead, I took out my feelings on more hapless weeds after DS3 departed to prepare for a dinner party.
Took great pleasure in trampling down the compost heap to compact it, making room for more - definitely no shortage of weeds as the kind people who did the watering while DH and I were away didn't have time for that of course.
Had a good look at the bottom half of the garden too; it's pretty steep and more like a mountain paddock/meadow than anything else. I'm wondering if it might be better suited to a donkey than more vegetable beds - how much veg can my family and friends consume?
..It's a mad idea really; would need to build a stable and find someone to look after the beast when I go back to 'UK home' - but the grandkids would love it! Hmm, no no no no - four dogs and No Name [the feral cat - CD's enemy] are enough of a tie / responsibility for me at the moment. The local sanctuary is bursting at the seams though; glad of any foster homes..
By the time the last of the light had leaked out of the sky, I was exhausted. Dinner was out of the question, so I lit the stove, wrapped Old Auntie in one duvet, myself in another, and fell asleep on the sofa.
This morning I found a note that I must have written at some wakeful moment during the night. It says: "Cook dinner at lunch time!"
..What a good idea; that's what I'll do.0 -
Ooh - am about to meet a potential Willing Worker! He's just 'phoned and is coming to have a look (he's only a day late..).
How exciting!0 -
Oh Robin, I hate to hear of you falling asleep without having had anything to eat, you really must have been tired out, love. Having said that, I understand that manual labour helps when you are greiving and I too enjoy getting down and dirty in the garden. Trouble is, you don't realise how knackered you are until you stop! Please take care of yourself, and please tell CD that we would love to hear more from him0
