    Hi Robin

Would Ex bring the dogs over in order to be rid of them?

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

    Hugs for you
    Satchmo xx
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Hello Satchmo and thanks for joining in! :)
Not possible I'm afraid; Ex is even shakier on his feet than both old dogs, and had to give up driving years ago due to his fondness for booze which led to a couple of accidents that he was very lucky to survive. :o

Hmm, storm clouds to the east, the west, the north. It's a bit brighter to the south but having just checked the forecast, I know it won't last. Still, I've got a few hours so today's mission is to finish the compound; then I'll be ready, if a lift for the old dogs materialises.

Had a brainwave last night while looking again [on-line] at a rather nice 4 x 4 that is for sale at a local garage; I could buy it in instalments like normal people do! Believe it or not, I've never done that - every vehicle I've owned to date has been bought after saving up the cash..
Yes I know it's not at all MSE, but the fact is that I'm stuck - and this inclement weather could well go on for months.

Will think about it - am open to being dissuaded too. ;)

This is getting ridiculous! ..I go outside, it rains a bit, I decide it's not that bad - then it pours! I come inside, the rain eases off, I go outside, it starts thundering! - Repeat about fourteen times today so far. :(
..This is the afternoon the forecast promised dry weather - aargh!

Agreed. Only two cars passed today; a 4x4 and the heavily laden van from the other day - he got just past my place then failed on the next incline. Looked very disgruntled coming back down - I reckon he was lucky to get turned round.

Told DS about my desire for a car that can cope - was told:
"Speculate to accumulate Ma! All a 4x4 will do is cost you a fortune!"
..Cheers son. Did I need to hear that? All very well for him in the city, he's only got to worry about his underground parking space flooding! grumble grumble.

Oh look - in the ten minutes it's taken to type this the latest storm has passed. Time to make it rain again.
  • I think you should do whatever makes you feel safer. If the 4x4 means you wouldn't be stuck if you needed to get somewhere in an emergency then so be it. My parents always said safety should come before money worries.

It's been nice to have a break from the rain here for a bit but its bitterly cold. Been thermal vest weather for at least a week to stop me having to wear big jumpers yet. I've started running on a free treadmill at work and I think that's helping my warmth too.

Give your dogs a big hug for me I miss having pets but don't think it's fair when we're out at work all day.

    Hi Robin,
Thought it was time I started to have a read of your thread, as you know me and mine. I have spent all evening, (early since school run) reading and am now at the end of page 3. However will have to catch up with the rest another time as my neck is in rather too much pain reading the screen now. I think I was so engrossed that DGD was in the bath over an hour and a half playing.! oops she was a wrinkled old lady when I put her up to bed a few minutes ago. I lookforward to catching up totally, and seeing the progress over the first 3 pages full was good, I am sure the next 4 will be the same. (on my p.c. you have 7 pages. I know some differ, or they used to anyway.).
    Big hugs
    Mooloo

Good Morning Diary and MSE friends, and welcome to Mooloo, :hello:

Just as it got dark enough for the struggling solar lights to emit a dim glow last night, the rain stopped. <sigh>
I did actually look for my head torch in an attempt to continue with the DIY construction outside, but failed to find it, then the outside light blew, so gave up. Don't think it rained during the night as the river is definitely lower, so maybe the forecast was right, just a few hours late? The bad news is that there's another big storm blowing in from Portugal which gives me little hope of much productivity in the garden before next week (ie. as far as this particular forecast goes).
However I have worked out Plan B which requires a mate to do a kind act - will let you know later if he agrees.

I think you should do whatever makes you feel safer. If the 4x4 means you wouldn't be stuck if you needed to get somewhere in an emergency then so be it. My parents always said safety should come before money worries.

Very wise parents you have, Fallenwiccan, :) there's not much point in being MSE if it means going over the edge of a cliff. The safest option for me of course is simply not to go out, or in an emergency accept that I won't be able to get home, but..

Another offspring has commented on my musings re. possible purchase of a 4x4. His suggestion would be vastly more expensive though; take advantage of falling prices and buy an apartment by the seaside (therefore with untroubled access). Now I wonder who would benefit most from that, hmm?
It would mean selling DH's London flat, but might be an option if my health declines to the point when I really can't manage here in my beloved mountain cottage.

Well you had more than your fair share of rain in the summer, didn't you? ..I remember that Newcassel chill which can defeat all but hospital heating systems; brrrr - don't envy you that!
Give your dogs a big hug for me I miss having pets but don't think it's fair when we're out at work all day.

Somewhat surprised Daft Dogs have duly been hugged on your behalf - now they are looking for the reason; a sudden rain of sausage from heaven would do.. (but isn't going to happen no matter how long Fat Dog spends staring at the fridge ;) ).

Goodness, it's lovely to see you here Mooloo but please don't make yourself ill reading my waffle! ..By the way, have you got a TENS machine?

Am delighted to hear DGD is learning to occupy herself for longer periods - she is growing up, isn't she? :)

Right, it's still dry outside - let's see if yesterday's gift [or curse?] still works!

Bad Robin! :( ..It's not raining, I've had lunch, so why am I here rather than hammering in posts and lugging fencing panels to their new location?

    .............

    Robin creeps outside very quietly.

    Purple rain.
I used to think that was some hippy hallucinogenic which good girls should steer well clear of, but now I know better.
Purple rain is what the forecast warned of; what I've been underneath all night, with thunder, lightening and more leaks than this cottage has ever suffered from while I've been staying here. Two in the bathroom - not a problem as it's a wet-room - one next to the cooker and one in the kitchen doorway (a good excuse to use the calender pages that have been haunting me to soak up the drips).

Outside everything is very hazy as we're well within the clouds, but I can hear angry water beyond the garden where the neighbour's stream has become a waterfall, and beyond that a constant rumble from the river which has turned into a murderous swollen torrent. It must have broken it's banks upstream; when the clouds cleared briefly I could see trees tumbling past as they were caught in the flow.

To be honest, I rather enjoy witnessing the majesty of nature, though that opinion might change if I ran out of food or had an emergency requiring medical help. No one is on the roads of course due to the danger of rock-fall - though I expect the bars are doing a roaring trade down in the village!

The internet has been down until just now - I wonder if lightening caught the mast? There were several close strikes a couple of hours ago, so maybe I'm lucky that I've still got electricity..

Two things are for sure; I won't be working outside today and Daft Dogs will not want a walk.

No, probably not, but who else can do it?
