Just caught up on the last 3 weeks, sorry for my absence. So nice of you to pop in and check up on me with all this going on.
Hope your new plum tree is thriving
Also hope that DSD learns that serious life lesson. So sad when some people just can't just appreciate alcohol without over indulging

Hello Diary and MSE friends,
Apologies for absence; RL has held CD and Robin firmly in her grip over the past few days, and somehow it didn't seem appropriate to relate events which have caused devastating pain to many folk I care about deeply..
Divo Three has volunteered to be a pall-bearer for his mate; am wondering whether to put CD into kennels and fly over as well to support Mum (but probably won't, despite inclination - she will have plenty of folk to help on the day, so maybe better to stick to original plan and visit on the way back homehome - also the most MSE option)?0 -

So sorry for your loss, and the turmoil of making a decision about travelling to support family and friends.

Hello Diary and MSE Friends-in-the-Box, :hello:
Happy May Day to one and all!
Thank you everyone for your supportive messages.
Decided to stick to Plan A; visit dear bereaved loved ones on the way homehome. As arranged long before their tragedy; from experience of similar situations, it's during the weeks and months after the funeral when folk really need to know their pain has not been forgotten.
Divos One and Three are going; they will represent our branch of the family on 'the day'.
Three and I took out our sadness and frustration [at being too far away to offer immediate hugs with the tears] on the garden, so it's had a lot of attention over the past few days.
Harvested last of the broad-beans and pulled the plants which are drying (hope they'll go through the shredder to produce an immediate nitrogen-rich top dressing). A big pan of beans are queueing to be blanched and frozen.
Ended up with a total of eighty-eight assorted tomato seedlings - had to borrow pots - a friend is going to sell on the surplus to benefit a local charity.
Granny - the plum tree looks very happy where DS3 has planted it in it's permanent home.
He also did sterling work carrying heavy bags of muck n' mulch, allowing me to finally tick off fertilising all the trees right at the bottom of the garden.
Wasn't very happy when Divo Three took off his shirt though - wanted him to get his moles checked before going to Asia, but of course there was never time (and he's a bloke, so tends to downplay health issues)..
Wouldn't let him leave the Nest without booking an appointment; there's a three week wait to see Consultant Dermatologist - so am relieved that 'phone-call wasn't left until DS3 gets back from the funeral.
Poor lad, he got the lecture too..
Spent an afternoon at DH's cottages, fiddling about while Plumber put in the new loo.
The sitting room of the big cottage still smells of cat-pee - reckon it's going to need re-painting, and a new sofa to get rid of the reek!
Why oh why give cats a litter tray indoors when the house is not only surrounded by fields and orchards outside, but there is a river between it and the only road trafficked by more than one car every few hours?
Suppose it doesn't help that the place is closed up when no-one is staying there..
On the subject of Land-Lording: Management company of DH's flat sent a bill for works done in 2009. My share; £570. Paid with reluctance - those particular 'improvements' fell apart or were broken by other residents long before DH passed away in 2012!
Good news: Hooray - internet working at 'normal' speed again (1st of the month)!
More happy news: DSD1 is very keen to repay car damage bill (DS3 will collect - saves changing £ to € and vice versa; two lots of bank charges).
Given 'usual' shopping bill, guess I can count the latest trip as good news too: Total spend £17 (CD's chicken, fresh milk and tea - didn't need owt else!).

Hello Robin - so sorry to hear about your son losing his friend. Assume the friend was young - what a tragedy - but whatever his age any loss is a sad one. Have a big hug from me!I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

Morning Robin, I think it's very thoughtful to visit after the funeral, sometimes I suspect that is when most of the grieving takes place, after they've said goodbye.
I got my first letter from the letting agent in charge of my house. Nearly £1000 was collected in rent over the two months, I got £230....you should see the long list of trivial jobs i've been charged for I am fuming!!! If the same happens this month I will be straight on the phone to them  !
