    Hi Missrlr,
Thanks for your concern, but am ok after sleeping it off some more - good job I don't have an employer to let down!

Oh my life Robin do please please be careful! I know sometimes you have to take strong drugs but perhaps stick to cold food on those occasions? Much better than an unintended heating up of the Nest into a flammable situation!

Shouldn't have bothered with dinner at all - CD enjoyed the indecent-looking sausages, btw. :rotfl:
No danger re cooker - both ovens have timers so just turn off if left unattended (didn't think of that when we bought 'em, but it's certainly a useful safety feature ;)).

Reckon am going to take those meds back to the pharmacy - don't even get rid of the pain and have such horrible side effects.. :(
Stick to the TENS machine, hot-as-possible showers, rest, meditation and stoicism (lol). A high pain threshold helps - but yesterday it was too much; at such times tend to forget about side-effects in search of relief. :o

CD's eye is better. Yay for the tea-bag cure - learned at Grandma's knee. In those days she would carefully wrap used wet tea-leaves in a clean hanky to make a poultice for swollen, sore or weepy eyes, and styes.
No idea why it works, but most times it does.. Using a modern tea-bag is much easier, and very MSE of course. ;)

Hope the meetings all went ok - can't answer your question, but sooner rather than later I hope! :)
Have the workmen started sorting out the problems with your house yet?

Hello Diary and MSE Friends-in-the-Box, :hello:

Thanks for popping in, Piq, lovely to 'see' you and thanks for making me laugh; "Robin Watch" indeed! :p
..Funnily enough your words sort-of came true last week. Left my mobile in the van where [predictably] it's battery died. Didn't realise I'd not heard from family for a while, until one of Divo Three's mates turned up (summoned by DS3 from the other side of the world). He looked very apprehensive calling 'hello' as he greeted CD, who had responded much faster than I did.
Wasn't until after he'd gone that I worked out why he looked so relieved when he saw me appear - he'd been worried he would find a body (think it may have been the day after the very sad news broke about Peaches G - RIP Young Lady :().

DS3 should have asked Plumber - he's seen me often enough recently. When he finally sorts out his own transport, reckon I will be happier about it than him. :rotfl:
Meanwhile we have been working out how much pipe will be needed to go around the garden, he mended my wonderful shredder [which turned out to have a couple of design flaws] and he'll pick up the items needed to stop the bathroom leak at DH's cottages, when he goes to the wholesaler with another client (very relieved about that as it saves me a trip to the city ;)).

Apiarist spent two days tending to his bees last week. He also brought about a dozen new hives which clearly contain a different species of honey-bee; larger and much more aggressive than the bumbly, friendly bees we're used to.
Suppose I ought to have taken more notice when Apiarist kept on his entire bee-proof outfit until he was beyond the gate, which is unusual.. As it was, suddenly found m' self in what can only described as a hail of bees - emulating bullets! Trying to ignore them I went to add more water to their pondlet, which infuriated one of the new ones - she dived repeatedly at me until tangling herself in my hair!
It was when my back was at it's stiffest so couldn't raise my arms; while trying not to panic as an angry buzzing got ever closer to my ear, the only thing I could think of doing was to upend my head beneath the outdoor shower while hanging onto the wall. Eventually the mad bee washed out, drenched but alive; carefully put her in the sun to dry off and went indoors.
Half an hour later I needed to do something in the same area. Immediately a bee was dive-bombing me again - couldn't believe it was the same one? Retreated in haste, waited another hour.
Soon as I walked round the corner a bee attacked again, got into my hair and I swear was fighting her way further in not trying to free herself! She succeeded; felt a fiery !!!!! on my scalp before reaching the shower. Will-power failed, but it meant a quick end for the now doomed bee. Managed to wash out the sting under the shower; must admit to consternation for ten minutes but think my hair prevented the bee from injecting her whole venom-sac - thankfully the only effect was a [bearable] burning sensation in my joints for an hour or so.
Reckon it was the same bee which made all three attacks. Now they've settled down a bit, most of the new bees are more interested in flowers than me, but there are a few 'soldiers' - twice since then I've been driven away from a particular spot in the garden by one of these fierce ones. :o

This potential danger has changed m' plans for the next week; will not be socialising at the Nest with our many Easter visitors. :(
Shame, but better that CD and I go to see them at the various family houses which are now filling up, than risk anyone else getting stung by our new buzzy neighbours.
  • to nasty bees and being stung :(. Hope you are ok.

I bet all the Divos were relieved to hear of you being found safe and well! I agree, RIP Peaches, so sad Xx

Whew, Robin! I can imagine the consternation you caused...

It's not in the same league but I had a similar experience last night.
I run an online quiz weekly for a group of friends from all over the world who originally met in an Irish chat-room.
One of our regulars, - Australian, late 70s - had posted on Facebook how much he was looking forward to the quiz the following morning his time, then didn't show. Concern grew, as he wasn't on FB either.
When he eventually showed up, 2/3rds of the way through I breathed a huge sigh of relief and I wasn't the only one.

My parents were both still relatively young when cancer took them, and living away from them, I was spared scares like Divo 3's pal experienced.

Dogs... so many people still don't heed the warnings about leaving dogs tied up outside stores. Our nearest one always has a pooch or two near the entrance. I rarely, if ever, took mine into the town centre as we are well supplied with far more interesting walks locally for canines, with fields and interesting hedgerows.

Not as interesting as yours though. I admire you for rescuing the manic bee that stung you when given a second chance.
My now adult daughter is highly allergic to bee/wasp venom and although I have rescued docile bees in the past, my response would probably have been to have killed an aggressive one first and regretted it later. :(
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

    Hello Diary and MSEers, :hello:

Thank you for popping in to the Nest, Lucky, Missrlr and Mcculloch - good timing, as we have chocolate cake to enjoy with our cuppa. It's a gorgeous day here, but we'll sit on the patio where there aren't so many bees (in the shade). ;)

Bees aren't really nasty, or vile - our race would last less than a decade if a solution to their global decline can't be found - it is really a privilege to have so many visiting the flower-meadow I call my garden. :)
..Looking forward to bumper crops later on. :D

Sorry to hear your daughter is allergic to bee-venom, Mcculloch - that must make it hard for her to enjoy being outdoors anywhere, except in the middle of winter! :(

It's been a busy, spendy few days here. I only had to make one 'collection' but it became rather complicated by having to arrange a hire car at short notice, then hide our surprise visitor at the Nest until he revealed himself during a family celebration (we took over a restaurant - it was a wonderful day!).
My share of the bills is around £100 to date, but we may need a whip-round to compensate the restaurant owner - one or two reprobates "didn't realise it wasn't all free" and walked out without paying (always happens, no matter how clearly the arrangements are set out <sigh> :().

The Nest's visitors are swelling numbers at their big brother's place today, where a ping-pong tournament is in full swing (- family tradition for getting rid of hang-overs ;)).
However a day off felt much more appealing to both CD and self - CD had been cuddled by so many small children that she was actually sticky by the time we got home, lol. Only had to mention the "B" word once; CD spent the next two hours washing herself thoroughly! :rotfl:

Divo Three won the prize for furthest distance travelled.. :T :D

Hi Robin just caught up with your diary. Apart from the pain and the bee sting I think you sound more upbeat thank goodness and life at the Nest sounds like it's getting back to it's usual busy pace. I always imagine you sitting at a big table outside in the sun with lots of food and wine and people chatting and laughing - don't shatter my illusion! :)
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

..Wouldn't dream of shattering your illusion, dear lady, although these days am grateful to hand over catering the larger reunions to those with more energy than I can muster! :cool2:
Mind you, the 'youngsters' still have a bit to learn on the timing front; takes practise to get everyone served together! :rotfl:

Divo Three hasn't yet made it back to the Nest, and Four is still sleeping off the previous two days' and nights' entertainments.
Four, CD and I are supposed to be visiting DH's cottages today for a final round of socialising before he has to return homehome and get back to revising for his exams (he's working hard - last assessment put him only one mark below a predicted first, so he's determined to get through that barrier (:D - maternal pride!).

    Finances: 100€ on plumbing supplies.
  • Just popping by to wish you a Happy Easter. Hope all is well Xx
