Thanks to everyone for their lovely comments. Sorry to Robin for hijacking your thread.

Robin, the irrigation project is definitely being directed from above, so I say go for it. It will make your life so much simpler, especially when you're feeling under the weather or are planning to be away from the nest for more than a day.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Satchmo...huge hugs. That is so hard.

Robin..great to hear of your luck with the pump repair bill and plans for the irrigation system. I agree, go for it.

I've had my beloved Snowy, as west highland terrier (westie) since she was 12 weeks old. Today, after 19 lovely years, she has gone to doggy heaven.

God sent me home early from work today (I had a few hours owing), and at 3pm Snowy had a massive fit lasting more than 20 minutes. When she came out of it, she was wandering round in circles, not knowing where she was.

I rang the vet, who said take her to the veterinary hospital (about 20 minutes drive away). The vet there very gently said Snowy will have massive brain damage, and it wasn't kind to keep her alive. I had already practiced in my head saying that I didn't want Snowy to suffer, or to be kept alive if she was suffering, so hard as it was, I wasn't surprised. So at just after 4pm, I held her while she slept her last short sleep. The nurse and vet left me to have some time with Snowy before I tore myself away. I made it to my car before I started howling (yes, just like a dog howls).

She looked so peaceful afterwards, just like she was asleep. I'm very sad that there's a huge Snowy-shaped hole in my life and in my home.

God bless her, and thank-you Snowy for so many wonderful memories.

Oh Satchmo, I am so, so sorry to hear your news - but also very glad you were with Snowy, able to comfort her and give that final gift of love; release. ((((Hugs))))

You wrote so eloquently of Snowy's passing that I found myself in tears of sympathy.. Nineteen years - what a fantastic age Snowy achieved; that alone says how well you looked after her and how much you loved her.
Wish I knew how to take away your grief, but I don't. Memories are what we all become..

Run free at Rainbow Bridge, beautiful Snowy; no more pains of age and clouded eye. Young again, forever. :heart2:

ps. No apology needed - in fact thank you for letting us share a day you will never forget; hope knowing that your friends-in-the-box are sending you love and sympathy across the ether, is some small comfort..
  • Oh Satchmo... well done on doing the kindest and hardest thing of all.

Robin, your theory on CD popping the keys in a pocket.
Some years ago a colleague came in late to work whilst her house was being renovated.
Max the Bedlington puppy had found her car keys placed in a wooden bowl on the stairs.
He then took them and hid them in his basket to stop her from going to work. :)

Hello Diary and Dear MSE Friends, :hello:

First of all, thank-you to HAW, Missrlr, Granny, Lucky, Sun.A, Knit-Witch, DFw, Brizzled and Mcculloch for posting, and offering Dear Satchmo your support.
Especially as I was slow to see the sad news of Snowy going to Rainbow Bridge (for which; my apologies to Satchmo).

Tbh, can't remember much of the last few days; picked up a bug from somewhere which fetched a right wallop - fever, sickness, thumping head, aching cramping muscles.. :(
Upside is that I've lost 2.5kg since Friday! :D

Luckily, had got around to making a huge pan of soup which sustained me when eating was possible - it was supposed to be French Onion soup, but a lack of red onions, wine or beef stock meant some improvisation.. My teetotal, vegetarian version still tasted pretty good and was easy to swallow in very small portions. ;)

Missrlr I do hope you are starting to shake off your 'real' influenza - as Granny says it can carry on affecting you for months if you try and forget about it at the first sign of feeling better.. :o

Really? Hmm, well perhaps CD was responsible for finding the keys in the garden and putting them somewhere that made sense to her (she wouldn't have been able to reach the key-safe, but might well associate a jacket with going for walks - which she knows does involve locking the house?).
Gardener didn't know anything about it, so maybe this is the closest I will get to a possible explanation?
    ..Clever Dog indeed! :D

Found a long-awaited message this morning, on a subject I haven't thus far mentioned because it seemed petty in comparison to the travails DFw and Kissjenn are going through with their tenants..
One of mine is late with the rent. No contact or explanation was somewhat nerve-racking due to the amount - they pay bi-annually (by choice).
Divo Four had suggested a reason which turns out to be correct; sheer pressure of getting work finished before xmas. Tenant is so much further up the academic ladder than DS4; has to sort out the students they are tutoring plus present their own work at conference level.
Fair enough. Am ok to wait until the pressure is off - trust T to sort it out asap, now that they've been in touch. :)

Dear Satchmo I am so sorry to hear that you have lost Snowy, how heartbreaking for you. It's such a pure love we share with our animal families and hurts just as much as a human lose. Snowy will be there waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge.

Robin, there has to be a better way to lose weight, really there does! I do hope you're feeling better now as well as slimmer!

  • Missrlr & Robin, I hope you are both back to good health soon. Well done on the weight loss though, just don't be tempted to weigh yourself once you're better as no doubt it will go back on (this always happens to me anyway ;) ) I now live in blissful ignorance of my weight and only start to watch the sweets once my trousers are too tight :p

As for the tenant issues  I should think that you had plenty of reason to have a little moan, that rent owed to me wouldn't be a dent in what was owed to you. Very glad they've been in touch though and I hope you get paid soon :)

    Have a lovely evening x
