We had excellent service from Green Flag.

Our car started making a serious sounding noise as we neared home. W e managed to get home- slowly- and husband called our local garage. They did not have a trailer but advised not driving it and suggested we call our breakdown service to see if they would help.

Called Green Flag and explained position. They immediately said 'do not drive it. We will arrange for a tow .'

GF asked for a time to collect car. Husband replied as we would not be going anywhere it didn't matter. However, GF advisor said he did not like open ended arrangements and would arrange for the car to be collected by 1 pm.

As it was Saturday on the Easter weekend we checked that garage would be open. Owner confirmed he would be there.

Shortly after we received a call from the man who was going to tow it to the garage to get directions to our house as we live in a rural area.

Tow truck arrived on time and delivered car to garage.

Fortunately, the problem was easily fixed and the car was back on Monday.

Living in a rural area all the breakdown services use local garages rather than dedicated vans.

I've been with Green Flag for a few years, two call outs. Bought the cheapest package.

First time was a simple repair, took 20 minutes to arrive, was on my way within another 20 minutes. This was in the afternoon.

Second time, 2.20am on Saturday Morning, needed recovery. Basic package limits you to 10 miles from home, I was 12 miles away so had to pay an extra £8. Still took less than an hour to come though.

So I'd definitely recommend them, had mates who have been kept waiting all night by the AA for a simple fix, yet the big companies seem to think they are something special as they have branded vehicles and charge a lot more

  • I just had my partner inform me she had broken down on the M40 today at 2.50pm. She rang Greenflag and told them she was a woman on her own and felt very vulnerable on the hard shoulder of the motorway. Their response was 'I'm sorry but we can't get anyone out to you until after 6 o'clock' !!!!
I am absolutely disgusted by this. I rang their helpline and asked what their guarantee was for a woman alone in a vulnerable position and he said.... 'our average response time is 46 minutes... they prioritise cases if there is a woman alone in a vulnerable position and would almost certainly be with them inside the hour'.. well 3 hours+ is a hell of a long way from that. He did go on to mention that he saw 'a report on the web last night about there being a cold snap' and that 'he read a newspaper report about it'... and that it 'wasn't his job' to deal with the breakdown side. You can imagine how I'm feeling at this point. If you want your wives to be left high and dry for over 3 hours alone on the hard shoulder of the motorway then sign up with Greenflag. Disgusting service is what I call it.

I had Green Flag breakdown cover for a holiday in Spain. After several expensive phone calls I gave up and arranged a local call out.

I live rurally and the average response time from the AA and RAC is 2-3 hours.Because the green flag use more local mechanics they arrive within the hour.
I think it was the 7 hour RAC experience broke me.My brakes had failed.Three hours to send a mechanic to confirm that and4 more to wait for a lorry who was someone local that said they had a call 40mins before.
The AA who told me the hospital I worked at didn't exist was fun and could I describe any large buildings or land marks nearby!

I was Abandoned in Spain worse service I have ever received After being sold the top European cover for my trip to Portugal, had car fully serviced before leaving the UK but as my insurance breakdown only covered the UK I was advised to take out additional cover and contacted Green Flag I explained I intended to take my caravan to Portugal and leave it there returning after my holiday with my car then on future trips I would just be driving down without having to take the caravan each time
I was told by them the best European cover that would include my car and caravan was Euro Plus and so I bought this fully expecting never to have to use it.
Sadly half way to my destination in Portugal I did break down in Spain. on phoning Green flag they sent out a local garage who then took my car to the local garage and left my caravan at a local campsite, Five hours later the breakdown vehicle returned still with my car on and took me with him to the garage also insisting I hand over my vehicle registration papers, at the garage they pushed my car onto the ramp drained the gearbox oil, sniffed it and told me the gearbox was in their words f**ked,
then they took me back to my caravan and left me there, the following day I received a call from green Flag who informed me that the garage wanted approximately 3000 to 4000 euro maybe more? to rebuild my gearbox when I told them no way was I paying this amount they informed me that despite having full cover I was only entitled to be taken to my destination or home if the car could not be repaired even thought the cost was more than the value of the vehicle as it was possible to repair it they had fulfilled their obligation and would not assist me further,
I then had to pay the garage 150euro to get my car and paperwork returned and was left stranded in Spain with my caravan and family.
I had to find another recovery company myself who charged me 1500euro to take me to me destination. my car never did return home and the whole experience turned a dream trip into a nightmare, I will never recommend Green Flag to anyone and will tell my story far and wide in the hope of saving someone else from the stress and worry caused by Green Flag in my opinion they should change their name to red light
  • The worst breakdown assistance I have ever received. Rather I would call it Breakdown Headache. I was refused breakdown assistance because my car had an expired mini cab sticker and i was offered to pay one off cost £200 to their recovery agent who arrived for assistance. I refused to pay and they left me helpless on A12. I bought AA breakdown assistance who provided me assistance. Later i contacted green flag customer assistance for cancellation. They suggested me to pay until end of my agreement. in case of breakdown they will not provide breakdown assistance. They also suggested me to sell my car and buy another car which has never been used minicab in order to get assistance from greenflag. This company is rubbish and would never recommend to anyone... Green Flag Customer service is extremely unprofessional and this company will leave you vulnerable when you need help....never trust them..

TIMES WE CAN’T HELP, OR WILL NEED TO
    CHARGE EXTRA
There are some situations where we’ll be able to help you at the
roadside, but not with recovery or transportation unless you pay an
extra charge and we’ve got a special licence:
    • If your car’s just been imported, or just been bought at auction
    • If your car’s still got trade plates on it
    • If your car’s being moved for commercial reasons.
There are others where we’ll only be able to help you if you pay
extra for the cost of the service:
    • If you haven’t fixed a fault that’s led to you calling us out already
    within the last 28 days.
And there are some circumstances where we won’t be able to help
    you at all:
    • If your car breaks down in a place we can’t get to
    • If your car’s going to be dangerous or illegal to load or transport
    • If there’s no valid Road Fund Licence in place for your car
    • If the car’s ever used to carry things or people for money. For
example, as a courier service or taxi

    • If the car’s involved in motor racing, off-road driving, rallies, track
    days, duration or speed tests
    • If you or anyone in your group is threatening or abusive
