  • Used GreenFlag before, they were excellent.

I would disagree with other posters using ther term 'local garages'. Green Flag do not use local garages, so its not just anybody coming from a random local garage to help. This used to be a case, they used to have a network of hundreds of local garages now they now contract the work to just 5 'super contractors'. Many of the vans used are also fully livered with Green Flag logos.

I have been with Green Flag for 3 years, its a benefit of the Natwest Advantage Gold account. I've had 3 call outs, all less than 30 minutes, each time I was attended to by Westbourne motors who have the Green Flag contract for Southern England. http://www.westbournemotors.co.uk

Yes they still do use local garages. The 5 super contractors only partially cover large areas of mainland England only.
  • We were recovered by Green Flag the day after boxing day were left at the side of the M40 for three hours with an 18 month old and a 4 year old. I won't be renewing with them.

RAC claimed I wasn't covered due to size of vehicle, despite having already 'fixed' the same fault earlier that day. Then charged for 'use of special equipment' which was a trolley jack (they didn't have one on the van).

AA sent a spotty yoof younger than my car, in a van that couldn't tow my Land Rover, despite knowing a flatbed taxi was required. He diagnosed a blown head gasket as a pinhole leak in the radiator. (I took a gallon of water off him and then drove 20 miles home.)

Green Flag and latterly Britannia Rescue have always been spot on for me, and more than once gone the extra mile to help me out (such as one guy phoning his boss at midnight to get the name of a local independent parts supplier so I could call them in the morning)
  • Anyone else had their Green Flag policy 'secretly' autorenewed? I have just discovered they've been charging me annually since 2011 (yes, I have only just started paying attention to my bank statements!) since I bought a policy with them at a previous address. I've had no contact from them since re: renewals, and while I may have moved my phone and email are the same. Found the original policy email and guess what it said under autorenew: 'unknown'! I am less than impressed. Yes, I should have checked and paid more attention but I didn't, I've only recently got to grips with my finances... Even so I do think it's a bit cheeky/underhanded on their part.

It won't have been 'secretly renewed'.

The renewal letter sent every year states very clearly that the policy will be renewed automatically unless you contact them.

I'm coming to the end of my 1st year with Green Flag.Had to call them out once.
I've had my renewal today.I must admit I wasn't aware / had forgot there was an auto renewal. You're supposed to cal an 0845 number to cancel but !!!!!!ed if I'm paying thru the nose to cancel so I just sent off an email.
I prefer to cancel in writing,at least you have some proof if they fail to act

I've just renewed with Green Flag this morning. The renewal quote was £95 (including no call out "discount") but an online quote for a new customer was £75 so I called them up and they matched it instantly. They also offered to take off the automatic renewal which I happily agreed to. Too many companies put on a continuous authorisation without telling you.

I have had to call them out in the last 2-3 years as my current car is reliable but when I used them previously when I drove a piece of French junk they were always excellent.
  • My wife called Green Flag as he car did not start after finishing work at the hospital. Green flag sent a white truck. The man could not start the car and he suggested it was a faulty battery. She asked Green Flag to replace the battery (we are paying), but to our surprise, Green Flag could not find a battery in their "fleet of cowboys"!

Next morning, my friend called RAC as he has a personal cover, a professional man came along with an appropriate van fitted with all the required equipment necessary for proper rescue. Guess what, the problem with our car was “A FUSE”!

After being a Green Flag customer for years and not needing them "ever" until this incident, I have cancelled my policy with those cowboys and I am now a happy RAC customer. I am sure the AA is also as good as RAC so you don't think that I am favouring RAC over the AA.

After complaining to GreenCowBoys, my advise is this:

1.Do not expect a Green Flag van with the appropriate tools and equipment necessary for fixing your car on the road as they lie and claim.
    2. Do not expect a professional person to rescue you or to fix your car on the road.
    3. Do not expect sympathy from Green Flag phone operators.
    4. Do not expect Green Flag to find you a spare battery (even if you are paying for it) within their “huge” (so they claim) number of vans and stations.
    5. Do not expect sympathy from their customer relations team.

It is even more frustrating to have realised all the above just when I needed them after years of being a Green Flag customer.

Do not join the cowboys of Green Flag.

    Now, take your pick.
