  • I have heard of situations where paypal has placed a hold on a sellers paypal account until the transaction has been fully completed (feedback rec'd) or 21 days has passed, whichever is sooner. Could it be that the seller has this problem and is not able to access the money you have sent her for the item until you leave feedback? In this cas I think it would be unfair for you not to leave feedback just to "prove a point".

The hold was placed on paypal accounts where a seller has less than 100 feedback (or a few other conditions i can't remember!)

As a seller I like to see feedback so I know that the person has received and is happy with their purchase.

It may be your seller just wanted to know you are happy with what you bought/received it okay.

It can be a thankless task selling on eBay these days with ever increasing charges and postage limits set way below cost. Having said that I wouldn't go so far as to email someone asking for it, I know a lot of buyers don't seem to bother leaving it at all, which I suppose could be worrying if you were somone who obsessed over such things.

There are some desperately sad human beings using this forum. A few emails and your world ends. One in capitals - how upsetting.

How right you are, desperately sad individuals like yourself that feel the need to comment on a thread trying to insult someone.

    There's a difference in tone.

If someone asked politely - then I'd be happy to leave it.

But some people feel entitled to it, like they feel entitled to everything else, and they try to boss people around.

If eBay is a challenge, then there's no compulsion to use it. You have to allow for buyer behaviour to a certain extent - there's a lot more casual users using the site, and if you need feedback to feel validated, then there's something wrong. The important part for me is being paid - feedback doesn't pay the bills. So I'd never upset buyers by chasing for it.

I do empathise with the Paypal hold - but on Amazon money is routinely held, first against dispatch, then a rolling reserve is maintained for sellers not on their pro-merchant scheme. To be fair, eBay and Paypal are a lot more generous, both in terms of fees and in terms of money liquidity. Again, I don't have to sell there, but despite that, the turnover is quite high and I'm happy to do it because even though I don't immediately see the money, more of it comes in.

And virtually no-one over there leaves feedback at all. I suspect that is why Amazon makes nothing dependent on it - but that is the reality of ecommerce. People want what they pay for. The seller wants the money. The marketplace is more direct and up-front with responsibility than eBay is - and I like that as both buyer and seller.

If I have bought something I always leave feedback, mainly to let the seller know I have received the item and also to say how the service was etc.
When I have sold something and sent it, receiving feedback is the way of knowing if it has been received ok and they are happy with it. It really annoys me when buyers dont leave feedback!
I have been scammed in the past and get a bit paranoid, so I just like to know things have got to their correct destination.
If I havent heard anything for a few wks I will email the buyer to make sure they have received it, this usually prompts them to leave feedback:p

Whoops sorrry, i'm the buyer! I meant the seller is pestering me for feedback, she's a private seller too so the messages are not automated. two of them she sent in all capital letters...

The messages are automatic no matter who you are.

As a seller, I post next day after payment and leave feedback after posting, stating alongside the usual niceties that the item was despatched that day. No need to message the buyer to let them know it's gone - there it is, recorded in black and white. Job done.

Other sellers may have different approaches, but I occasionally hear of weirdo buyers who leave a negative if the seller hasn't already left a positive, so this avoids that scenario.. though I'm sure they'll find another reason to neg me... didn't like the postman who delivered the item or similar!

As a buyer, I tend to leave feedback pretty sharpish, unless it's something you have to physically use to know it meets its description and purpose.
