Hello, just wondering what peoples personal preferences are when it comes to leaving feedback on ebay? I normally leave it once i've checked the item etc, however i HATE being pestered to leave it. i've had four messages from one seller requesting i leave her feedback and it's making me more determined not to leave her any! To me, once i receive the item the transaction is complete and then once i get a chance to i do all the feedback at once. I cannot stand being bugged to leave feedback!

I'm probably in a minority, but am not too bothered giving as a buyer or receiving as a buyer or seller any more. I do have feedback set to automatically leave for buyers after they pay.
I've got a hefty amount of feedback as a seller and we always get some (no idea of the percentage) so it doesn't affect our seller account adversely to have to pester for it. Unfortunately some low volume sellers need feedback to help their selling position, so they can end up pestering for it..0 -
Are they personal requests from the buyer,as ebay sometimes automatically send feedback reminder requests?
These cannot be stopped by the seller.Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -

I am confused - you like to check the item first, and a buyer is pestering you. How can you check the item if your the seller? So whats the problem?
Personally - i think buyers have every right to ask for feedback. You've taken their money - why would you then not show your appreciation? Programs like Instant Feedback do if for you - so there is no excuse.
But i dont think Sellers should EVER ask for feedback. If the buyer is happy with your service - they will let you know. They are the customer - its their choice!!!!0 -
Whoops sorrry, i'm the buyer! I meant the seller is pestering me for feedback, she's a private seller too so the messages are not automated. two of them she sent in all capital letters...0

I'd be tempted to give them a neutral saying something like "happy with item, but not happy about being hassled to leave feedback" and take off some communication stars.0

I'm not keen on the idea of buyer feedback, it messes with people's heads - both buyers and sellers go nuts about something which just doesn't exist in the wider world of retail.
I don't care when I get left it and I never pester for it. On my selling account I'm in the situation of needing it to achieve a reasonable score, but as a seller who cares about what their buyers think - since they're the ones paying - I don't bother them; it's their prerogative.
I do leave it for them on payment as that is when the buyer has done their job. I don't think the buyer has any other responsibilities, and while it may be possible for them to be stroppy later on if something goes wrong, I understand that most people don't like being shortchanged and so stroppiness happens. Some people want to withhold it and use it like dog biscuits if the buyer holds to some arbitrary concept of good behaviour that they have established themselves - that is not conducive to a good trading environment as it blurs the edges of buyers' rights and sellers' responsibilities.
I do everything I can to do the right thing when selling so hopefully good feedback will follow from that.
I wouldn't mark someone down for pestering me to leave feedback, since I usually do it pretty promptly on receipt. The only time I haven't left feedback in recent years is when I had an item go completely missing and there was nothing I could say. The seller responded quickly and refunded but I didn't want to call out an INR, for the selfish reason that some people jump on that as proof of fraud, which is unfair on me.
It also was not a positive transaction; I didn't get the item I paid for; but since it was refunded immediately it wasn't worth a non-positive.
But in this case I'm tending towards a neutral too - as long as the communication was such that it was off-putting and/or aggressive. A simple request is not that bad, but a demand, particularly with threats, is unfair. Many people simply don't come back to eBay after ordering and receiving an item - why force them to do so given that it's not something that anyone can be sanctioned for not doing?
It just doesn't seem right to treat someone who has paid for something that way."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Or you could go the whole hog and neg them, with the comment "You pestered me for feedback, so here it is!"
That might make them think in future.
Personally I now don't care if people leave me feedback or not and I certainly wouldn't hassle anyone to leave me any.0 -
I hate being pestered for it! I have been buying a lot recently and ive left it in batches, but Ive had one seller with feedback already left by others message me being quite rude as the payment was on hold and wanting me to leave feedback so it would release the funds. Ive checked on their page and they never leave feedback for buyers!
I had already left it but for some reason it hadnt displayed, I left it the same time as I had messaged them about some items that were left with the item. Trying to be decent I messaged them to say that if they gave me their address I would post the items back. the reply was just ok and the address, no thanks what so ever. The things are still on my desk at work, They can wait until weekend and go second class post! Im not making a special trip to the post box with them I work really far out of town so its 2 bus journeys just for me to get to where I can post them. The least they could of said was thank you!
Needless to say I only gave four stars on comms! And I still think that was overly generous!0 -
If you are happy with the item then i think it's a bit unfair to leave a neutral or a negative.
I would either ignore them, or leave a positive but mark the communications star down.0 -
The service is part of the transaction. People need to see whether a seller is rude just as much as they need to see whether the item is a fake or bad or whatever.
No-one is usually snarled at by a cashier in a supermarket and told to say thank you, or else. If they did I would write to head office and complain, even if my food was OK. By and large the problems on eBay are not caused by duff items but by poor service, whether in the event of a problem or even, like this, in the event of a non-problem.
If sellers want to avoid poor feedback, they should think before they grouch and grumble at their customers."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
