i know its been a while but was wondering if you could help me! my mortgage with the abbey may be turned down tomorrow - basically the house im buyinng has a conservatory linked to the living room through an archway - because it isnt a door it no longer meets building regs. abbey want us to get retro building regs - this would take 6-8 weeks and were due to exchange any day. the chain wont stand for a 6-8 week delay!! if they do say no and i cant see why they will cos weve obtained not only an imdemnity but a letter from thye council saying that they wont take action and basically they dont care about the building regs - but im thinking pessesmistically!!! - then can i call abbey direct and try and pusuade/reason with them?? my solicitor and EA and broker think abbey is being unreasonable so i want to try and speak to a human at the abbey and get my mortgage!!!)

Why don't you call them - their phone number should be on your Home View report. Your broker obviously isn't having much luck (or maybe isn't trying particularly hard) so it won't hurt if you get involved. It's your mortgage application at the end of the day.
You could go with another mortgage provider if you like, but you'd have to pay the basic valuation fee again. As you have a homebuyers (Home View) report already, you won't need to have that one repeated. You'll possibly have to pay a loan set up fee too, depending on the company and product.
You could well meet with another delay - I don't know what this extra information is the Abbey asked for but the next lender might also have the same wishes.
Your best and cheapest bet is to call their mortgage centre no. on your report and speak with them direct. It could be that your mortgage offer is out any day now and you'd be setting yourself back to square one needlessly.
Was there anything drastic wrong with the property btw? Sometimes their underwriters will cause delays whilst deciding whether to proceed with the loan if that's the case.
Give them a call, it won't hurt
I have just recieved a aip for a house that I want to buy.I need to give them a few documents such as bank statements, proof on address ect.The broker has already run a credit check and that was fine.Woolwich is the one that has given me the aip.Approximatley long would the process be now from this stage to when the full aproval goes through. If I have got this far with credit check and aip how far have I gone through the process and would it be pretty positive for my getting the mortgage
Thanks0 -
