Sorry you lost him - what a blow but he was old for a GP and had had a good life with you.
Glad you were there with him at the end, you would have comforted him knowing you were there.

Thank you everyone, I got called into work yesterday for a long shift, so helped to keep my mind off it.
I still can't believe how quickly he went downhill - tho the vet did say they are very good at hiding illness.
At least he's at peace now - thanks again xx0 -
