Needed to share this with people who understand.
I have a lovely resue gp called Davy, who I've had for 5 years, earlier today he suddenly got very lethargic and just wasn't 'himself.' I took him to vets thinking he had a kidney stone (as he has suffered from them in the past.) But they think it is more serious and he has kidney failure. He also has a respiratory infection...and as I have a cold I'm thinking he caught it from me.
The vets have let me bring him home, but not given him much of a chance of being with us in the morning. He has had antibiotics injection and metacam for discomfort. I have more of both to give him in morning.
He has hidden himself away now, but doesn't appear to be pain. I also have some special good for him, if he pulls through.
Have to take him back to vets at 11am if he gets through night, so they can work out best way forward, but vet warned me this isn't likely.
Feel sad and just wanted to get it out.

I understand your sadness.
I sobbed my heart out when the last of our gps left us. My daughter was ok(they were hers) but me- I was in bits!!
You have done everything you can for him and the price we pay for loving is to go through this pain of loss.
Hope you are ok.0 -
Sorry to read this.
Human colds are viral, many virus' cannot cross the species barrier to infect other animals. If the piggie has been given antibiotics the vet believes he has a bacterial infections so he may just have picked it up from the environment (the world is full of bacteria) because his immune system was low. Unfortunately Davy died at approx 5am this morning
I sat with him for most of the night, as he seemed comforted by my voice.
RIP little Davy.0 -

I'm sorry you lost wee Davey, you clearly loved him so very much, I am glad you stayed with him. How sad yet touching.
Some people dont understand that you can love and grieve for a very small animal just as much as , say, a big dog. Hugs.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Sorry you lost Davy

You must have been a brilliant Mum to him though as that's a really long life for a Guinea Pig. You must have made it an exceptionally good one.
RIP Davy xx0 -
