Help with 3G contract!

Hi,
I have recently upgraded to 3 (redemption offer via 3) and lately been getting some unwanted calls. I rang 3 to ask if I could change my number and was told it would cost me 10 GBP! I explained the reasons why I wanted to change my number etc and the customer services guy was very rude and interrupted a few times saying its not free and I would have to pay! Furthermore, I asked to cancel my contract as it does not start until 2/04/07 and was told that I would have to pay the remaining redemption charge of 365 GBP! Cut a long story short the customer services guy cut me off without putting me through to cancellations.
I rang back and spoke to a 'manager' and explained/complained about customer service etc. Again, I was given the same response that I would have to pay for number change or redemption charge if I cancel! I have not received a copy of my contract yet and furthermore it don't start until 02/04/07! So, how can I be held responsible for early redemption charge! The 'manager' stated it was a verbal contract/agreement and they don't have to provide a written contract!
Someone please help me get to the bottom of this.......all I want to do is change my number without paying..........are 3 legally allowed to hold me accountable for early redemption charge? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!

3 are being a bit of a pain in the *rse these days, as I understand you have been with 3 for a while and are staying on after they offered you a better deal ?? If there is no written terms maybe you can turn things around with them if they dont change your number, can you say you dont want to stay with them because you want to change your phone number because of nuisance calls, if they say you have a new agreement ask them where it is and say you havent agreed to anything yet as you were only thinking about it. They only really have proof if they have the conversation of the redemption recorded which I doubt they will. Stick to your guns and keep at them.

I think everyone gets unwanted calls and I think to expect a number change for free is a bit of wishful thinking, if everyone who got some unwanted calls demanded a free new number then it would cost them a fortune and they'd probably run out of money.
Just get a free sim and port the number to 3, free and simple job done
