I realise this thread is for student accounts 2012/13 but I assume the info I need would be much the same then as it is now...
Are these 0% bank overdrafts available to international students or UK students only? I`m an Irish students who`s just commenced studying in England.0 -
I started at Uni a couple of years ago and applied for the Santander student account. I was turned down as I had a joint account with my husband. They said that because one of the conditions was that it had to be my main account I couldn't get it. I tried to explain that once I had the account it would be my main account but to no avail.
Just wondering if this is a condition of most student accounts?
If it is how do I get around this?
I mean I obviously have and need an account currently, and until I am accepted for a student account this will obviously be my main account, so how can they turn me down due to an account which does not yet exist not yet being my main account?
I left my previous course at uni so did not pursue the issue at the time but I am starting a new course and wanted to investigate student accounts again.0 -
my daughter is age 19 in a gap year, starts uni sept 15, has her offer of a place. She wants santander student account with railcard. we need an account number to put on the student finance application. we checked the santander website to apply. it said you must be in your first year of study. got my daughter to ring santander to see if we can apply now, so we can put the account number on the student finance application. they said no, we have to wait until July.
My daughter then had the idea of applying for a 'normal' account and getting it changed to a student one in september. I rang santander to check if she will keep the same account number. The santander person said she cant apply for the student account until sept. but said if she applies for the normal account she would keep the same account number.
I asked about the rule of their requirement for putting £500 (student loan/grant) into the account each term, because the first terms money would end up in the 'normal' account, not the student account. Their answer was that as long as we paid £500 into student account before the terms end we would be ok. but I said we wouldn't be doing that because the next grant money would be in the next term.
we went round and round and I am not convinced I have the facts of how this all works, as it seems wrong that students cant possibly apply for the account they need their grant paid into, until after the grants get paid.
I know you can apply for loans late in the year, but we have no back up money to cover her fees if it does not come through on time and all her friends have made their finance applications already.
Any ideas?0 -

Just put your own account details down with Student Finance for now and then change the information with them, any time before the money is due to be paid to your daughter.
Also, you can transfer in the amount they've stated at any point and transfer it out the next day - it still meets their criteria of having a certain amount of money paid in. You're over-thinking it.0 -
TSB are advertising a student bank account with 5% interest and I am just wondering if anyone has this account and what their experiences are with it.
A week ago I submitted the online application form and told to bring either a UCAS letter or a letter from university confirming your place and ID. I took my ID in and my acceptance letter from my university, and a few days later I got a call from them saying I'd have to bring in a UCAS letter. However, I didn't apply through UCAS so I did not have a letter. They were adamant that even though I didn't apply through UCAS, I'd still have a UCAS ID.
As far as I'm aware, you don't have a UCAS ID if you applied directly to the university?0 -
After reading this year's Student Bank Account best buys (and similar articles from other sites), I am surprised none of them consider whether the banks support Android Pay. Of the best buys only 2 of the 4 support it:
- Santander - NO SUPPORT
- Co-op Bank - NO SUPPORT
- HSBC - SUPPORTED
- Halifax - SUPPORTED
I know for my brother who was accepted into Uni today, this was the deciding factor to go with HSBC instead of Santander0 -
The Nationwide account also has Applepay and Androidpay0
