Missed Payments 1yr Ago... Possibility of Rejection from New CC?

Hey guys,

One year ago I missed two payments on my UK CC as the direct debit had not been set-up despite the fact that when I got it, the guy on the phone said it was already done (it was with my bank) so I took the hit and moved on, making sure I make every payment for the CC and pay off early if I can.

Now I am looking at applying for a non-bank card as I would like one that offers me rewards (mainly looking at the Hilton HHonors Visa although I do like the look of the Starwood Amex) but it says as a requirement "No history of bad credit such as arrears, CCJs or bankruptcy"... as I missed two payments a year ago, is it likely I will be rejected? I have a good salary, I only use it for the weekly shop and two treats (nice dinner out, spa day or something) a month and for emergencies.

Am I faced with rejection or should I give it a hot? I just know that if I am rejected, my score will take a hit and after a year of rebuilding it, I don't want that to happen.

Am I over panicking?

Thanks

No one has a crystal ball.

Apply and find out. If you get declined just apply for a sub prime lender/capitalone/vanquis.

One or two missed payments is unlikely to have that much of an effect. But, with leading being tight who knows,
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

From everything you`ve said I think you`ll be fine but never know until you apply.
The term "arrears" is normally used to define an account thats some 3-4 months overdue, you`ll usually be notified that your account is in arrears. If you missed 2 months, its obviously not ideal but I would say it was a minor blip on an otherwise clean credit report and wouldnt be classified as "arrears".

The lender wants to see a good history of making payments on time and you think missing 2 payments 12 moths ago is a minor blip seriously?

I would be devastated if my report showed 2 missed/late payments!

I don't think you should have a problem applying for the card, especially your late payments were over a year ago. Before you apply for an Amex just make sure you have a high credit limit on your existing CC.

However way you look it a lender would see the OP as a higher risk then an applicant with no late payments.
